Newbie Intro 93 FZJ80 and Build Thread

Hi all,

I first want to thank everyone that has helped me out already.

I picked up my 93 with 129K on the clock in KY on Saturday. Since, I have driven the 200 miles home. I have started the drain/refill on the Transmission, 4 quarts, using the new Mobil 1 Syn ATF. I have also drained and refilled the rear diff fluid. The front diff and center diff will happen tomorrow. I have the CDL switch to go in also. No rust, very clean paint for the year. There is just a bit of fade on the roof but hood looks great. Yes it does have the magic dial that says diff lock.
More pics.

wow looks real clean, best year too!

CDL switch has been installed, Synthetic gear oil in the center and regular 80w-90 in the front, mixed with some lucas HD 80-90 gear oil. Armoraled the leather. She still has a way to go but soon will be top notch.

'93!...with lockers...way to go!

I need to get my CDL switch as well, which is really the only thing I miss from my '91.

I got mine on e-bay for $15 plus $5 shipping, and its probably out of a 91-92. The guy had 1 more.

New pics. I have cut and re-installed the mud flaps and plastic end caps for the running boards. I have also removed the tow hitch and spare tire. I strapped the spare tire to where the 3rd row hooks up and removed thoes seats.

Thanks, just been doing some PM and things I can do that are pretty much free untill I save enough for a the lift and tires. She's coming along nicely

Update,
Found out the viscous coupler in the T-case was seized up. Beno was nice enough to send me one he had (part time kit he was installing) and that is being done this week-ish. Because the t-case seized (making it a biatch to park) I ended up snapping a tooth off of the ring and pinion and I just ordered a set of 4.88's nitro gears from Carl(highly recommend) @ JTs Parts & Accessories, Justdifferentials.com (mud vendor) along with master rebuild/bearing kits, knuckle kit, and solid spacers. All should be in, in the next few weeks. https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/124794-tutorial-removing-viscous-coupler-photos.html

Research for 4.88's

Not much else has changed. I did leatherique on the leather and boy did a bunch of black come out of my gray leather, it was good stuff. I have 7 center caps I have sanded down and ready to paint. I have also pulled out my shifter console b.c there are drill holes in it where the phone was, and I have made a template for the sheet of diamond plate I have to go it its place. Pics will come as I finish up the projects. Lift and tires got pushed out but I might have some OME medium springs coming so I can get some 35's duratracts on there before winter.

I need some color help. When I paint my center caps I was thinking about painting the wheels too as well as the bumpers a dark tan or sand or coyote brown to offset the Em Green. Thoughts or photoshop help?

Do you have the annoying factory TVSS alarm in yours?

Yup had problems with it untill I read the manual on it. Now I understand what it is doing by self activating after 20 seconds

jealous

Nice rig man. I really like the look of the 93/94 FZJ. Not trying to be too nosy but I was wondering what you paid? I just picked up a 95 with a LOT more miles on it (233K) for $5500ish (traded my jeep grand cherokee + $4K). Mine has everything but leather too.

Update:
I added my pistol holster into the center console. https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/353379-pistol-holster-mount-shotgun-holster-mount.html

The 4.88's are in and awesome. I put on OME 2.5 medium springs and have 30mm spacers to go on too. Put on some OME nitrocharger sport 70L and 71L shocks. in the process I snapped off a shock mount bolt and snapped off both the front shocks post bolts leaving my rig disabled the same week I sold my other car. Broke the eazy out off in it too. Had the shocks 3 day aired so I had a car to drive. Wouldn't have been able to get this all fixed without some help. A big thanks goes out to Sparkie247(without his help, fab skills and knowledge I would have been hosed), Beno at American Toyota(http://www.americantoyota.com/index...fai=C4HmOlpigTMz1Mo6EygSWm6idBQAAAKoEBU_QXOe1)
Iron Pig Off Road who got me the shocks asap.(http://www.ironpigoffroad.com/)

Finally was able to get it out and all back together in a few days and back on the road, just in time to get my new GY Wrangler Duratracks 315/75/16 and get out to our annual Redneckathon
Redneckathon 2K10.
