A/C dryer skidplate DIY

I made a bolt on A/C dryer skidplate for my 97 FZJ80. it bolts to the same frame mounts for the ARB bumper.

here are some pics of it.

it is made out of 3/16 inch thick 2x2 square tubing and 1/4 inch plate.

Nice. From the 1st post - 2nd pic, you should add a triangle gusset so it would sustain a hit from the bottom better.

If the free end of that gets caught up on a rock your truck will push it back into your drier. You need to somehow tie it into the bumper like slee's piece.

i looked at slee's piece. 10 gauge steel is between 1/8 and 3/16 inch thick. i wanted something a little beefier. after i finish my sliders and modify my kaymar rear i may revisit this. thanks for the suggestions.

one of the main reason i went with 3/16 square square tubing is so i would not have to gusset it more or have to tie in to bumper. but may have too anyway.

maybe i will test it out by jacking it up by the skid !

True but the angle of approach makes the Slee piece work very nicely. Rarely will you land on this piece squarely, rather, more of your time will be spent on "sliding" over obstacles. In that case, I have concerns for your design. Furthermore, the cantilever effect on your piece may cause bending under extreme impacts. Slee unit does a good job of triangulating this piece and has couple of bends in it, thereby increasing the strength even further. This is a constructive criticism, no offense intended

I too am a DIY guy but the price and functionality/form of the Slee unit is so good that I couldn't justify firing up the welder and the plasma.

It baffles me that ARB doesn't acknowledge this is a problem and just weld a plate on the bumper before it's even sold. Am I the only one who thinks this?

TJM bumper has a nice protection for the dryer so I have to agree with you, why doesn't ARB figure this out!
