Any ideas or drawings for a tray mounted spare wheel mount?

How did you want it to look? Thsy can be mounted behind the cab with $25 hook bolt,or with some mods to the tray the tyre can go underneath at the rear.
Or you can get the Kaymar tyre carrier that stores the tyre vertically, bolted to the chassis at the rear.{IMO this option is hard on the handling.)
They can be stored behind the cab with the Kaymar mount like the hook bolt but its $500 vs $25:D

Usually I lay mine flat in the rear with a rachet strap which gives me a good view out the cab window and use the hook bolt when I want to carry a load.

Here are some photos of the spare tire carrier on my 2006 HZJ79 series. Hope this helps.

Hey guys, thanks for the useful advice and the great pictures, i already have a spare underneath the tray as the model that comes to Sri Lanka has only the main tank. But i have fitted 255/85 Maxxis Big Horn M/T on 07'' rims and it doesn't go under the tray!!! The pictures give me a good guideline however my 79 is a Rite Hand Drive. should not be a problem though. Just shift the mount to the Right.

No.. not hoping to put a turbo kit. however have fitted OMU Sus and a localy fabricated rear bumper. Have given me quite a bit of lift. Also the 33'' tires have helped.

Are you going to put a turbo on that thing!

I would like to say never (it has so much power being a new 1HZ engine) but anyone who knows me, knows that it will probably happen at some point.

However there is always hope, I can't even bring myself to cut the hole in the fender to put a factory snorkle on it. I have tried got the template all layed out and everything but just could not do it. Hell it still have new car spell in it, and only 3500 kilometers on it, maybe someday but for now I keep it all stock :D

Cheers,

Michael
