I noticed that it looks like the passenger side may have the captured nuts under the headliner to add a grab handle like the one on the drivers side on the A pillar. I would like to add one but dont want to pull down my headliner to check for the nuts. Mine is in good shape and has the metal clips from the factory holding it in. Anyone who has repaced their headliner know if the captured nuts are there?

I was also wondering about the rear seatbelt mounts. Mine has lap belts only in the rear but it feels like it has the hole for the shoulder belt and I'd like to put the shoulder belts from a newer 62 in, especially since I have a set. Any help would be appreciated.

My '88 had the nuts in the passenger side A-pillar, I added a grab handle just like on the other side, it was very easy. Made it much easier for my wife to get in the truck. I also added handles for the rear seat just behind the B-pillars, I think they came from an 80-series. You can see them in this photo:

I can't remember about the seatbelt bolts, but I seem to recall they weren't there.

Wow, that's a clean interior, KLF. Beautiful. Are you part of Yankee Toys?

Scott, you can check the seat belt hole by pulling the vinyl welting around the door off the C pillar and undoing a few inches of the headliner, enough to get a finger or a dental mirror in to examine the hole. My 60's have that hole but they don't have a nut welded behind it. I suspect your '88 is the same. Without the nutserts and the larger cut outs in the body, it is a major pain to add the shoulder belts.

You can probe with the tip of an awl to see if the nuts are there. I'm pretty certain you'll have the PS grab handle nuts. The shoulder harness nut I think is pretty hit or miss with an '88, mine did have them. I bought the new 3-point harnesses from Toyota, but never got around to installing them. I know you'll need the trim panel from a later 62 to cover them. I don't recall if there is any other mod required at the base mount.

Founding member. Although, I haven't been active since 2010 when I (stupidly) tore my truck apart for a restoration, still working on it.

Sold the FJ62 in 2004.

I appreciate the input. I figured the ones up front would be there since they made both right and left hand drive models.

I guess I'll have to pull back the liner for the seatbelt check. Hoping the nuts are there.I have a set of 3 points for the back ready to go in. Not a rush on that yet... my boys are still in kid seats. If I cant get the factory ones in Ill put a set of Harness' in like I have in my 40.

Some will have the captive nuts for the A-pillar handle and some won't. If you find that you don't, you can always install nutcerts in the cavity where the captive nuts would be.

X2 My 89 did not have captive nuts. I got the idea of adding the second grab bar on the passenger's after seeing the captive nuts on one in a junk yard that head liner was gone. Cut out the head liner in mine only to find a hole with no nut. I used some kind of insert nut that has held fine. This probably fifteen years ago. I've need to check out the grab bars for the back. So the 80 series grab bar matches the holes in the FJ62?
