I have an 82' BJ60. It has a 3B enigine and runs solid but..... I took it into a garage to get the rear leaf spring changed since it cracked. Now it turns out that the frame is cracked and rusted out really, really bad. Not too sure what to do. Can't be driven, and I don't have a lot of $$$ to spend on it right now. Sell or fix????

How much work can you do yourself? How much can you get a decent frame for? How much do you love that truck? How much would it cost to buy a rust free FJ60 and transplant the drivetrain? How long do you plan on keeping it for? Man, there's lots more to ask than can it be fixed!! Everything can be fixed for a price!

Time for a total frame-off restoration, or a new truck.

You might be able to source a frame in Vancouver.

Call EBI in Port Moody. Talk to Steve. If he has an OK frame you might be set.

One of the guys in the Coastal cruisers works for him and is selling a Bj60 for 1800 bucks. Head over to that section to ask them for a frame.

I would just swap a frame. Have someone do it if you can't. A shop would be able to do it rather quickly. I'd say a couple days labour. But better get a quote.

Your frame is not worth fixing.

Dude, that'll buff right out.

X2 on the "Dude, that'll buff right out." and if it doesn't
i can build you a rear 1/2 frame for,.......?900-1100, 1800 and i'll put it in for you if you have a heated shop. take about 1-2 weeks start 2 fin. only if the frunt half is good to 10 - 18" back from the frame tapper.dont have to take the full truck off the fram to do it just strip the ass end and undo the body mounts, all of them.

good luck' Les:cheers:

Joe canadian,

That is some very impressive work you have done building this frame. Obviosly you have spent countless hours perfecting every angle and every length building the frame. I have always wondered if there was anyone here in Canada that actually build these half length frames.

Are you getting more attention and selling more of these frames since building the first one?

Perhaps some time I can drive my 60 to your shop and you can have a better look at it? Or if in vancouver vist me and have a good look.

I don't know how comitted you are to fixing it , but I saw a fj60 frame for sale on seatle craigslist for $200.00 don't know if they cross but they probably do search landcruiser it will show up listed with a bunch of parts . Russell

I don't scab plate to rusted crap I'm talking about buying a used frame I saw on Craigslist for $200 and taking the rear section of that frame joining it where or if he has a decent front portion of his frame(yes I realize both sides will be shot but it's usually the rear that is really pooched) . As he stated he doesn't have alot of money to spend and from the pictures this cruiser doesn't warrant one of your frames if I was in his situation I would look down south for a clean gasser and swap running gear my two cents Russell

Well its quite cheap to build my frames as far as materials go, most of the cost is labour. Basing the build on 3-4 8 hour days at a welding shop rate of 65-80 bucks per hour. 1560 - 2080 plus tax and materials. Materials is about 300-500 bucks. 1560 - 2080 is based on $65/hour. That's just the building of the frame, not even the putting it onto a truck. Well i could probably get it on in 4 days. That's not bad comparing it to the cost of some bumpers.
Its just like an aluminium welded boat you can build an 16 footer for around $2000-$4000 or you can buy one for $10,000-$15,000
