Blue Carpet in an '87 FJ-60

Hello everyone,

I have been a long time time IH 8 Mud forum reader and never found the need to post. Well, the need to post has now arrived. I checked the search function as well as Googled and have come up empty, any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I have an 1987 FJ-60 (manufacture date 12/87) with blue carpet and am not able to find anyone including Cool Cruizers, Cruiser Parts.net, or SOR. I'm told by the technicians that the only interior colors for carpet were either gray or brown during those years. I can tell you I that the carpet was not dyed- I'm the third owner and know the history of the vehicle. It is also definatly blue and not a greyish blue so no fading has occured. Additionally, the door paneling contains the blue carpet. I should add the 60's color is blue too. Can any of you help? Did Toyota produce blue carpet in '86 and'87? Where can I source the blue carpet since Toyota no longer produces the 60 carpet?

I don't think blue carpet was an stock option but maybe I am wrong. Maybe the first buyer has the dealer do a custom carpet. You can get a carpet kit made any color you want from a couple of online places but you probably will not be happy. I would find the best auto interior shop in the area and get an estimate.

A picture would help. Is the carpet the loop type?

It really doesn't matter whether it is stock or not. The fact is you can't get OEM replacement carpet in ANY color. You just need to pick a vendor and pick a color. Besides, even if there was a stock blue kit, it wouldn't match your 20 year old door panels. So if you want to stay with blue, get some samples and try to match your door panels. If you are going to replace all the carpet and the door panels then you can pick any color you want. A couple of us purchased from Chester & Herrod ( Auto Carpet Kit Manufacturing; Contact Us ) Not OEM quality, but I have been satisfied thus far. They can get you any/all the pieces you want in any color.

We all love these things, but they aren't like numbers matching '60s muscle cars - if you deviate from stock it won't effect the value.

On a side note, there was a recent post from somebody whose dog chewed up his blue headrest and he was searching for another blue replacement. Upon further inspection, he saw where they had used spray dye to color the stock headrest.

I have blue in my 85. I am assuming you mean navy/dark blue. Blue carpet, dash, console, sterring wheel, etc... I would love grey, but mine is in good shape so everything stays blue.
Silver truck btw.

Yeah, mine is "blue" too, but that's what Toyota call's gray. AFAIK, they only had two interior color options for the 60 serise, gray and brown.

I have an 87 fj60 and everything is blue body, carpet, and seats. Its all stock as far as I know. I would also be interested in replacement carpet for the back floor. It has a spot that is deteriating fast.

'83 FJ60, blue body (sky blue, medium blue? I forget.), OEM carpet was grey. Replacement is grey, too, but my dad bought it new.

Blue FJ 60 Carpet Pictures

Ok folks, thanks for all of your input including the one about urinating smurfs (LOL!). Here are some pictures I took this evening after getting home. It was dark outside so I used a drop lamp therefore the true color does not show as well as in daylight. What you can tell is that it is darker than the lighter gray carpet seen in other cruisers of the '87 vintage. The color is actually like a steel blue- certainly a dark blue. I'm also glad to see that I'm not the only one who has blue stock carpet. As you can tell I'm looking to replace the back carpet. Perhaps, this may have been a dealer installed option as was earlier suggested.

Here's a similar shot of my 1987 with the new "grey" carpet. The panels still have the original "grey" carpet, albeit faded.

Yours looks the same to me . . . .

ContactChester & Herrod and have them send you a sampleof the grey. Although the texture was a little different, the color was very close. See how it compares to your carpet.

yup, same exact color as my 86.........lets call it gray/blue and keep everyone happy

too lazy to take the cover off or the mat in the back....so this is all I had handy, but blue body. gray/blue doo rpanels, carpet........
