hi everyone, i am kenji from chile, I get myself an old fj that i post in the christmas post, i realized its going to be a lot of help to have my own project thread and hopefully even help someone else.

my first doubt is about the year, here are more pictures
i always loved fj40, for that i bought and fj cruiser that is my daily driver, i want to build a mild trail rig with classic flavor.

the fj came with no engine, someone put a diesel engine before, this is a pic of the gearbox, it has a extrange bellhousing, i think that sometime the gear box was replaced because it should have a three on the tree, but the transfer looks original with vaccum engaging front shaft. is that ok?
the linkage for the transfer is attached to the bellhousing? is the bellhousing for the dash mounted trans lever different? i need a special bellhousing to keep the lever in dash?
i am still looking for an engine...

Looks like an interesting project. Engines out of a 40/45/55/60/70 will all bolt in.

The vacuum shift will work reliably if well maintained. Can't comment on bel housing differences... Only ever seen a 74-78 housings.

Destin has a very good thread on his rebuild of a similar Landcruiser to yours.

Hello and welcome to mud... I posted in the other thread to answer your question about age of the truck... It is definitely 1961-1963

I am going with 62

Your vin number will tell us exactly what year it is... What's your vin?

ohhh amazing builds both, but fjfjfj was shoking! every detail is original.
here is imposible to do such a thing, just amazing.

the problem with this fj is that it dosent have the plates with vin, here in chile is common for old vehicles, and some times even the inscription data is wrong, so it could say is a 65 but is older or newer.
thats why I ask here. the number is nos engrave in de chassis in any place???

The vin is also on the front passengers side frame rail... . Above where the shackle mounts

here it goes! just like you say, it was under a lot of paint...

here is de transfer lever linkage

and this is what i think goes atached to the bellhousing, and i dont know if all f series bellhousing have attaching point for this....

look the info i got from the chilean dmv:

Inscripción FV.7139-9
DATOS DEL VEHICULO Año : 1961
Tipo Vehículo JEEP
Marca TOYOTA
Modelo LAND CRUISSER
Nro. Motor F-147201
Color ROJO
Combustible (NO INFORMADO)
PBV (NO INFORMADO)

NO REGISTRA SEGURO OBLIGATORIO VIGENTE

funny that in vehicle type says jeep jejeje
color says red, but it can be changed, so i dont know the original color, has engine number but not chassis, tipical problem in old vehicles.

thanks for let me in the register!
one question, why old fj are in the fj25 section? mine is fj40, right?

Yes you have the 1st year of the fj40 before that was the fj25's .... till 1960

We have figured out that the vin numbering started at 10,000

Yours by the way is the Hardtop version... The soft top version of the early fj40's had the same round door opening as the fj25 soft tops... So you got a hard top minus the hard top :)

These Toyota 4x4's started out as a Toyota Jeep then called a Toyota BJ and lastly the Toyota Land Cruiser :) .... Many nations lump them all as Jeep Type vehicles :)

That transmission and transfer case look correct, top shifter very rare in these parts. Instrument cluster has the recess in the middle bottom for the column shift rod. Nice find.
