Has anybody heard of, or used products from sound deadener showdown? I don't need any lectures about a 40 not being a luxury car, or even modern. But, if I can cut even some of the noise out at a reasonable cost, why wouldn't I.

I am on the same quest, and I agree, it will always be a rough truck - but if I can lesson some of the noise -great.
I have used dynomat on other vehicles with great success, but it is very costly and has to be covered with something like carpet.
I am now putting my '74 - 40 hard top back together for the first time and makeing some changes. After some inside fiberglass repairs, I coated with a latex roof liner (like you coat a house roof with). Next I will be using marine carpet, rather than OEM head liner.
On the tub, I coated the interior with rino- liner, which did a great job cutting down vibration and noise.
Next I will replace all of the door seals in and out to limit rattles.
What's a "reasonable cost"? Line-X or Rhino liner on the underside (or inside) of the tub will quiet the rig and provide additional rust protecttion, if done properly, and will last a LONG time. I used to be against it but have seen some impressive results in some unusual applications. The only problem with foam/foil materials inside the cargo and passenger areas of an FJ40 is wear and tear, and water penetration and condensation in voids between the steel and the foam-backed material.
I have been looking at this LizardSkin® Spray-On Insulation : Lizardskin for a bobbed duece project I am working on. It seemed to get pretty good reviews but I have no experience with it. Anyone know anything about how well it works, and if it is affordable?
