Folks,
Just bought a "pretty" stock '64 FJ40 that is in need of a restoration. I am new to FJ40's, but have restored a few other cars over the years.

My first question is regarding FSM's for this vehicle. I haven't found mention or a link to factory Service manuals for older FJ40's, I see 75 and later. I attempted to call Toyota (I read the FAQ and searched ;-) but they do not have an FSM (or set of them) for my year. Woman on the phone mentioned 69-71, but was out of stock.

Is there a Body/Chassis and Engine manual specifically covering my vintage? If so, where do can I find them (either print or online)?

Once I understand how this truck works, hehe, I am sure much more interesting questions and feedback will roll in!

I have 6 and 8 yr old sons, we are relly looking forward to a project to work on together. I would like a stock restoration.

Sneezy, Awesome. Many Thanks! That actually taught me a lot, which is sad ;-)

Still looking for a source for the FSM's, and am not necessarily looking for free ones, just a place to buy what I need!

Mattcamp,
Will take some pics tonight! She is rough!

for excellent tips on a stock restoration check out the rebuild threads in the 25 section. Welcome to the club.

The link for ebay may be a F engine repair manual but I doubt it's for a F135 which a 64 should have. The 68 model started the F145. Then with the 72 model it changed again to the F155 which has to versions. S few F120 came in the FJ25s. Even a change a very few F105 were imported. The point is there is more than one type of F engine.

I was lucky to find a 62 FSM manual years ago on ebay. The person I got if from said her father used it when he did service on his 1975 FJ40:confused:

PIC's included... Please don't mock her!

Tailgate or barn doors. It may be a soft top model. The hard top is from a later FJ40. I see a soft bracket across the top of the windshield. The earlier windshield fames with the vent on the bottom is a little wider. The top you have may not fit perfect. Also the amber parking lights are 68 and later. The mirror bracket on the driver's door is also 68 and later (68 thru 76) Soes look like a cruiser worth restoring. The one thing missing from your cruisers that most seem to have is rust.

Call Toyota's service publications department at 1(800) 622-2033.
I just ordered a owners manual and Chassis & body FSM. Toyota didn't have the suppliment book to the C & B FSM so I ordered it from www.books4cars.com You can download the engine manual for free off many different sites or you can get it also direct from Toyota. The oldest 40 FSM that I have seen is a 1967. I have some downloads for my year 40 but I still like to have the printed manual for quick reference in the shop. As ARC1 said flip the bezel on the front of your 40 before you take any more pics or the bezel police here on mud will start giving you a hard time about it. Congrats on the find and we love to see any 40 being restored. Let me be the second one to give you the Mud newbie salute:flipoff2:. and welcome to the TLC disease.

Congratulations! Looks beautiful to me. What a great learning experience for your kids. Big smiles for the first ride, and probably every ride after. My 2 year old loves to ride in my cruiser. Can't wait to build one for her.

Cheers,
Pauly

Why are so many bezels upside down? Mine was when i got it.

I would say you are improving your collection of toys-- is that a vette to the left, and a stang' on the hoist.

My prediction: three fj's before you are done.

Welcome to the addiction.
