Just wanted to say hi to all cruiserheads out there. Been lurking around for a few months after purchasing an FJ40 for a build project. After doing a LOT of searching on the site, and getting almost every question answered in the existing threads, I figured it was time to join and support the site with the silver star membership. I have no doubt it will be the best purchase of my entire build project.

Always been looking at '40's, never too seriously. Every time I looked into buying one, I couldn't understand why the owners were asking so much for them...almost as if they really didn't want to sell them.

Fast forward to 2007, I started working in the remote highlands jungle of Papua Indonesia, I was introduced to the 70 series, and was amazed. They are put through some pretty brutal conditions, and keep on ticking. Since I can't exactly put a new 70 series into a sea container and ship it back to the U.S., I started looking into getting a FJ40 built back home that would mostly be a '40, but still remind me a little of the performance of my 70 series. Anyhow, we'll see how it turns out, the build starts in September. I've been on the site enough to know that everybody likes to see some LC eye candy, so here's my FJ40:

Yea, it looks a bit rough, but it's going to get a frame-off build and a lot of modifications. I'll be keeping the frame, body and axles, pretty much everything else will be new. Didn't want to tear up a perfectly good FJ40 just to replace most everything.

I know this isn't the 70 series forum, but I have to post a picture of my current (company owned) LC (VDJ78) and inspiration for the decision to pull the trigger on getting a '40 built.

I STILL know it isn't the 70 series or diesel forum, but one more picture, perhaps the most beautiful, the Toyota 4.5 liter V8 turbo diesel (1VD) in my 70 series. I've look very, very hard into getting a modern, fuel efficient diesel engine such as this for my build. Needless to say, I hope at some point, the EPA and CARB get a clue. It's ridiculous that the U.S. is pretty much the only country that has not figured out the benifits of diesel engine technology. (OK, rant over)

Welcome,

Have fun and good luck!

Hey, you lucked out... You still have the factory hood bumpers!!! YAY!! Good find...

My 69 came without seats as well. A milk crate works great. Good luck. You will find some of the most generous guy here on MUD. Especially with there advice.

Nice find... Look at it this way, tear down is going to be a piece of cake... Good luck and please keep us posted... Cheers!

Welcome and nice rides! Thanks for the pictures

holy smokes!! if your 40 could really made it to indonesia, please let me know how. It took me years to build '74 chevy blazer k5, and when it's over and ready to be shipped to Indonesia... BOOM!! indo doesn't allow importation of used car. It's still sitting prettily in iowa. that's my second love. 1st love is the 40 i have right now. good luck dude!! hope you make it, and so i could.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. I have found out fairly quickly that cruiserheads are in fact some pretty helpful and cool people.

The body is in pretty good shape, one of the reasons why this particular stripped down/parted out 40 was picked for the build. Other than some surface rust, I had only found one area that had penetrating rust, so there should be minimal metal work to do (hopefully when the paint is stripped off there won't be any surprises).

As pointed out, it does have a lot of neat accessories as is...a self-righting bezel, underhood lighting, latchless hood and a custom mounted instrument cluster to name a few! ;)

I only make it back to the States about 4 weeks a year, so in order to get it built and out on the trails in less than 10 years, I'm going to have to cheat and have someone else do the work. It bums me out to miss out on that part of being a '40 owner (also a dirt bike guy, and 50% of the fun to me is tinkering on them), but I do plan on making up for it whenever I move back and building one myself. In the meantime, I'll do my part to support some cool cruiserheads that do this for a living.

That's a bummer man! I didn't know that Indonesia doesn't allow importation of used vehicles. We bring all of our 70 series in to Papua from Australia new, but have to pay a 100% duty on them...ouch!

The 40 is in Colorado, it'll stay there after it is built for me to wheel around in when I am back, and when I move back for good, will be a daily driver/weekend warrior. If anything, I would love to get a 70 series to the US, but then you have the US EPA in the way of that...:bang:

Wow, that thing is as rust free as they get, wonder why it was stripped down. Good score and good luck on the build, have everone that works on it take pictures so you can follow it and know exactly what was done. If you do it yourself you know how to fix it if some one else does it you should at least watch.
