Any reason not to pull it out together? It is pretty easy to pull it out as a unit. Then set it on jackstands outside the truck. Might be less swearing putting it back in?

I have used heavy cargo straps wrapped around the frame and under/over the tranny or bellhousing.

I thought it was S.O.P. to pull them together?

Remove the grill and radiator and pull everything out at once.
I've not done it but after removing the grill an radiator to work on my engine and finding out how easy it was I can't see doing it any other way.

Don't wrap a chain around it! make a couple of brackets out of 90* angle, put a hole in one side to fit the head bolts, and a hole in the other side big enough that you can bolt the chain to, and pull the whole works, engine, transmission, and transfer case as a unit, it is much easier than trying to separate them in the frame.

The 2F in my '76 had lift eyes on it from the factory, I haven't seen a 2F in a long time but I think they were bolted to the right side of the block in the front and the opposite side on the back, and didn't use the head bolts.

It has been awhile since I pulled the straight six, but the last few times I have pulled the SBC I put the cherry picker as far to the back as I could, used chain secured at the front and rear. Be sure to secure the links at the picker end too. You don't want the chain to be able to slide through a clevis etc. Then I would put a rolling floor jack under the transfer case. Slowly loosen all the bolts until everything is balanced and start pulling everything out. Be sure you have all hydraulics/electrical disconnected. The parts that try to get in the way were the starter,(removed it), motor mounts, (removed them) and the HEI. For the straight six the valve cover may try to hit the firewall.

I had trouble getting the leverage on the chain link with the vice. I took the end link in the vise grips and hit the link on edge with a sledge hammer.

Comes out pretty easy though.

ok well it's almost out but i can't get it all the way something in the bellhousing is keeping it from coming loose I'll try to readjust my chains and tranny jack
