We plan to drive to southafrica, starting from switzerland - with our well equippend Land Cruiser 200 V8 Diesel (europe spec).

Europe Spec means - that he has some gimmicks who belongs at sample in australia or usa more to the lexus 570.

The V8 biturbo Diesel comes with 289 PS, 210kw and max torque 650 Nm / 479.05 lbft.

It have goodies like 8 Seats, AHC (Active Hight Control), Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), Crawl, JBL 14-speaker system, Iphone Integration, USB Connection, Hard Disk Drive (HDD) Navigation, Anti-theft system, Sunroof, 14 Airbags, Pre Crash Safety System, Four-zone automatic air-conditioning, Pollen filter / Clean air filter, Active Traction control (A-TRC) are some of the points.

I have now have merged my Website together with my Blog. You can translate the website to english, the link to the "translator" is on the right menü side, maye you have to scroll down a bit.

I have done my best to compress the informations - so it isnt so much stuff to read.

How do you like my idea / plan with the rear-box? Overkill? Or should i go better with a roof storage / cargo box?

I hope you enjoy ;)

Sounds like a great expedition!

I have added a hands on of the delorme two way satellite Messager - and a sketch of my planned custom watertank :-)

Tommorrow i will drive to munich, a good way test the livetracking feature ;-)

Today i have fixed the "carnet du passage" stuff. Really ugly, to deposit much money for the car

I had to deposit 50% of the worth of the car, and have to sign, that i will be additional liable for 125% of the worth. When you read the clauses - thats a really bad kind of paper

Only good point is, that i was able to set a really low worth. But 175% of a low worth ( 50% deposit & 125% liability) is much anyway...

The blog has some updates too ;-)

Now the sleeping plattform building phase has started

And i show how we will navigate in africa - and how we will clean the water to use and drink.

I still search a solution to store my gas grill/cooker and the gasbottle. To store it behind - looks to expensive.. Would you store it inside?

Hope you enjoy,

Surfy

Awesome thread. Sounds like a great journey. You have the perfect vehicle for it, especially with the 4.5TTDs fuel range. Be safe and have fun

Very cool... I'd love to find about your shower details when you have time. :) Thanks!

To get the visas is a real pain - but since yesterday we have both our 2nd passport - and should be able to get a faster progress!

@Adventure Copan: Some pictures are specially for you (pump). The warm water i get with a "Helton hot water" device (google). The heatexchanger isnt visible - so im not able to take a picture - without parting out the car.

Thank you!

I had now severall time the chance to test the helton hot water device.

It is great!

At first: the surflo pump is to strong - mean - they pump to much water through the heatexchanger.

So i had to limit the waterflow a bit - and now - i could have a really hot shower anytime!

Surfy,

I like your build man. Keep up the good work.

We have reached Brazzaville, Congo today. Internet is still to bad for pictures.

But our Blog is up to date.

The car runs fine, but the engine runs "hard" more nailing with the fuel here...

Glad you guys are safe and doing good!

We have finished the Transafrica, by arriving Capetown. Our daily diary is now completed and Online in our blog @ http://transafrica2012.blogspot.com

We have to review our pictures, and we will add some pictures to each day in the next weeks.

The Land Cruiser 200 has taken the hard road, and he has to get some service back at home.

He had taken more bad roads than i though as i plan the trip - and i`m wondering, what kind of stuff need a repair.

We had to replace the front windscreen, and it is broken again now (both times hit by stones). Also we have a killed fog light glass, had to replace the fuel filter and the airfilter once. Toyota did an excellent job with the Land Cruiser 200!

I will update my transafrica Thread about experiences of the trip itself later - here i will stay more car related ;-)
