Heres some photos of my new skinny tires. Don't laugh. I like them and maybe this will help others wanting to see what this size looks like mounted. They are BF Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A KM 235/85X16

looks naked underneath... like when I work on my truck. a huge SUV on a little jack. I like the LX. aggresive, yet clean and peaceful.

looks like you have 4 spares on :flipoff2:

but they will kick my LTX's in the butt anyday

So far, so good. But I only have about 75 miles on them. Previously I had 265/75 16, which, comparatively, were much wider but just as tall. I think I can tell a difference in accelleration. Less tire means less mass to move. They are E rated so plenty strong, and hopefully will get good wear. I realize they are not the macho balloon tire look, but since that is so typical I thought I'd go with functional v cosmetic.

I can agree with functional. I put my spare ontop so it wouldnt get muddy, and if I get stuck (which happens alot with road tires), and have to change out ( which has happened) and the tire is underneath + muddy and slippery, its 10 times harder to change.

I like the tires, i think its unique, im more for function than looks too. some disagree since thats the only thing ive done is looks. any road noise?

Road noise is slightly more than the BFG ATs I had previously. The LX has such good sound deadening, once you put the windows up you don't hear tire noise.

What's more functional about that size of tire? I haven't seen a hundy yet with a 'macho balloon' tire.

Looks good to me, very military/utilitarian. I will probably do 255/85 r 16 next time.

What is the concern over the rim width?

Probably good in the snow, less surface area.

That's the size I think I'm going with next time as well, or if I can find the cheap wheels, I'll do the 285/75R18.

Easier to break the tire bead when aired down. A 6-7" would be more ideal. An 8" rim is actually about 9" wide. 235mm section width is about 9.25" wide. It is possible to narrow an alloy wheel though.

I like the idea. It's the sand bit that'll likely stop me come tire change time, though...

Should be better fuel economy.....like street bicycle tires. I'm jealous of the function, but I think it looks like an Ethiopian in a Sally Struthers commercial. No offense to Ethiopians intended.

Over Christmas I will try to take some better photos with a real camera (this was cheap camera phone). When I took the pictures above, the LX was in the "high" position. When its in "normal" it does't look so goofy.

The biggest drawback, to me, is that the tire/wheel does not fill the wheel well. I'm wondering if 1" spacers would push the wheel out enough to fill the wheel well sufficiently. I've never had to mess with spacers--if done correctly, is there any drawback to increasing the track width, for example an inch? Would this mess up the handling or create any other problems? Where would I find spacers to purchase?

Thanks.

I guess these tires will perform well in the mud, but bad in swamp and sand if the car is loaded. 6.5" wheels would be better, as you might have problems when driving with tires aired down.
I also wanted this tire size, but I've chosen 265/75R16 for better performance with loaded car.
In my opinion LC is a bit too heavy for these tires, but I use 7.5R16 for my other car that I use only for offroad - UAZ (but it weights only 1500kg and has no power steering ;) ).

Regards
Samo

My chrome wheels I had stuck out an extra 48mm over stock. The nearly 4" extra track width helped handling on the highway like you wouldn't believe. When I went to stock wheels I had to learn to slow down before the turns.
