Have just replaced diaphragm which according to P.O hadnt been changed since new, now on 258K. Got some advise from Ted at Diesel Australia in Brisbane, these guys are super helpful, even pulled a pump off the shelf to show me what to do.
Their advise was to chuck the split pin and washer, as its impossible for the diaphragm to slip off the rail pin. Was a little shocked to have oil run out when removing cover, obviously 20 + years of oil vapour through the rocker cover breather ??? The cover was 3/4 full of oil
It would be good to know if there is a more sinister reason for this
The swop was really straight forward,
hopped in and took it for a run, what a difference, it is already a sweet motor and is now so much more responsive
I would strongly recommend looking at this on your next service, its the best $45 I have spent in ages.
