quality mangleage was had

and finally, the truck is protesting: I had an altercation with the steering wheel  all fingers were left on and are functional, wrist is no longer hurting - I think I am good :hillbilly:

the area is beautiful, but the trail is definitely completely unsuitable for the public - we hear that Joe makes good business with recoveries there - I believe he is putting extra rocks there after people go in :hillbilly:

Good times had by all! Thanks for the company and you guys have a safe trip home! See you next time! :bounce: :steer: :bounce2:

Met at Baja, started pointing at roads on the map, no one has run FR1704, lets go!:hillbilly: Wasn't expecting much, turned out to be a fun trail.

One of the first sections is a lumpy road.

I was up there on the 31st. Ran it with a friend and we stopped at the hill. Being unlocked and not armored, I wasn't feeling like enduring body damage. The trail was pretty fun and the first obstacle looked so much worse than it actually was. That off camber turn going down was awesome! Felt like the rear tire was up a couple feet. Did you guys go up the hill at the end?

Nope - we stopped at the saddle just before the climb up the ridge and west to the spring; there was some space to turn around...

Pic is from the washout just before the last saddle...

maybe I am not seeing it, but where would the body damage have been ?

yup, Tony reported my rear tire on that turn was chest high off the ground  when I felt it unweigh, I decided that to hurtle myself down the mountain ASAP was the safe thing to do :hillbilly:

body damage? yup, that trail did the first body damage to the piggy, it also took out a rear driveshaft. it all happened near the top of the big hill climb where a very large boulder is/was about 12-13 yrs ago. it was worth it though, put on the spare shaft and made it to the spring and end of the trail. i was not expecting a dead end, figured it would loop around into something.

About 1/2 way up the hill, the furthest point of the trail in my 2nd picture, there's a rock that sticks out on to the trail. It's about chest high. The trail is off camber quite a bit and leans vehicles right into the rock. The rock was quite colorful from trading paint with vehicles.

I don't recall that part of the trail :meh:

ChaseTruck said you turned around on the saddle before the climb up the ridge. Was it at a corral and a Y in the road? That was about a mile before this area. The last picture in my post was from near the corral looking to the SW. The 2nd to last picture shows the trail in the background coming down off the ridge.

There's a fun little obstacle on the trail in that valley after the ridge for those who are unlocked. The road has a really twisted spot and 90* turn where you end up stuffing a front tire and opposite rear tire to show the full effects of how open differentials can be challenging. I wish I had a picture, but it sure felt like we were rocking back and forth on just the two stuffed tires.
