Had a good friend come in from Idaho and the "boys" got together for a camping trip to Hagler creek. Due to the combination of the burn on the mountain above and the massive rainfall recently, the road down to Hagler creek is washed out pretty severe. At one point the road is washed 8 feet down into a hole. The road (hard to tell from pictures) is rutted and full of large rocks. At one point the road is washed too wide and too deep to try to traverse. You would end up with one side of your truck down in the hole. We found a newly formed drive around that was tricky but allowed us to bypass the washout. Good thing my friends all have clearance and lockers!

The good thing was the campsites down at the creek were all empty and we took the usual choice spot we have been going to for many years. The road further up to the water falls was good till about 2/3rds way then timberfall blocked the road in about 1/2 dozen spots and would require a chainsaw to make it through (no, didnt bring one).

We hiked to the falls and enjoyed the 75 degree highs. I had to make it an overnighter due to work  but the rest of them are staying till Tuesday. Eating like kings (shrimp, steak, perogis, etc), hiking, and playing cornhole. (The beanbag game)

looks like you had a good time. Wheres Hagler Creek Rd, for the non-native guys?

BTW, crayfish aren't native, you should have eaten them.:hillbilly:

Past Payson as if your going up the rim and turn right on Colcord Road, turn right on FR200, youll travel up the road and watch for a two track on your left about 4-6?? miles in (sorry no wqy points) . youll pass up about 3 turns to the left - go past those. If you get to the top of FR200 and start heading back down into the valley on the other side, youve gone too far by a couple miles. Once you turn on the two track its a several miles down to the water.

looks pretty sweet. any water near camp this time of the year?

Yes the stream is right below the campsite. If you look at the overall camp site picture, you can see the stream to the right of the blue tent and the Full size Jeep. The sound of the running creek sooths you to sleep at night :D. There were several small trout in the stream below us and one 12" trout down there. Didnt bring any poles for fishing tho'.

Here is a link to a little better directions. You turn on 260 in Payson. If it was off of 87 It would be a easy drive for me. I head up 260 out of Camp Verde all the time. Then north on 87 to the cabin.

Here is a comment on another site

"After heavy rain, a four wheel drive vehicle isn't a must but is nice."

I have never been in the upper part of the creek. I have forded it a few times Northwest of the town of Young.

A few years ago, I walked upstream from the waterfall which is fed from springs. You have to walk around because the waterfall itself is around 30 feet tall and sheer.

After an half hour or so the springs go dry and traveling further up still didnt show any water.

I honked at the red jeep the other day :hillbilly:

Murf, how long of a drive is it approx. from phx? Looks like an oasis!

It takes about 3 hours to be in camp from Phx.

Yes, he made it unique looking by taking off the stock grill off his '82 rig and replacing it with the 1967 Jeep gladiator pickup grill (fits right in). He is in the local Full Size Jeep Club and is a moderator on the local FSJC board.

I really thought it was a old sixties wagoneer. Not sure about the power plant in the old wagoneers but I like the size. I think Jeep dropped the ball in the eighties when they dropped the framed wagon in favor of the unibody. Let's see was that Willys, Kaiser, AMC, Chrysler,........

Just emember there is only one jeep

But which was is it.

There is only one Land Cruiser and that is a Toyota. Can jeep make the same claim:hmm:

X2, I had a 74 back in the 80s. Size and handling was very similar to the 80. Damn nice rig for its era. Mechanically, it was a cluster......:meh::hillbilly:

Sometimes, I wish I'd had the time and money to turn it into a viable rig, I could have had a lot of fun with it.:meh:

hope to head up here this weekend....should be fun haven't been since college.
