Not my vehicle. Got a search alert on Auto Trader and would love to see a Mud member get it. It's in Miami, FL. AT car id: AT-134D9A21. autotrader.com

I made a deal on it last night within an hour of it being listed. Flying out to pick it up this weekend. It's about time my obsessive searching paid off.

Yep...the SOB sold it out from under me to his neighbor after agreeing on a price and day of pick up. He agreed to give me until next Monday to pick it up. We made a deal this Monday night and when I had my plan ticket booked I let the guy know the plan and he informed the that he sold it to his neighbor because he "just wanted to be done with it". I guess he has no concern for anybody but himself. I moved heaven and earth to make it happen....even so far as training someone today to fill in for me at work while I'm off on Friday and the guy can't wait two more days to sell it and keep his word. Obviously I'm pretty upset over the whole situation.

Agree with all of this, deposit and paper trail.

I tried to send a deposit but he said he didn't want one and that he would hold it without a deposit. I even pushed to send one but he wouldn't take it. I guess that should have been a red flag. Oh well...lesson learned I guess.

Confused - did WNCruiser buy this and is flipping? Just basing it off his original "buy fail" post after you lost it, then it's up for sale from where he lives? Interesting drama if so but I guess business is business so can't hate too much. Sorry you lost out on it man - keep searching and you'll find a nice one.

Yes...

To avoid making a potential mountain out of a molehill, allow me to clarify how this went down as I was there and purchased it.

Hawgleg (unknow to me who this was until later on) had a deal, offered to leave seller a deposit, seller refused as he ONLY wanted to deal IN PERSON. They had a deal from what it sounded like. I of course didn't let that stop me as I do this for a living. Seller says he will call me back in 30 mins. 4 hours later he says he sold it to his neighbor, which is what happened..

I dug in and begged/offered more than the sellers asking price, knowing that the neighbor could make some quick cash in 15 hours...I booked a 1 way flight to MIA and the neighbor picked me up at the airport and we went to the bank and did the deal in cash, IN PERSON. We then went to his house in SoBe to handle the paperwork, where I met the original seller. And he explained the whole thing, really was no harm intended, the guy was almost 80 for crying out loud...he wanted to deal IN PERSON so he sold it cash to his neighbor...he didnt want to deal with Paypal, shipping, deposits, certified checks, etc.

Being a dealer, the reasignment was quick and easy with the title so there were no issues which made them both happy.

Like I said, you are more than welcome to have first swing at it. Sorry for the BS, been there many times and have learned to "increase the odds". Best of luck with the search. If you run across something that is close but doesn't fit your criteria/pricepoint exactly, shoot it over to me and I can send you a bird-dog or something. Cheers

I would add that after the deal was finished I came on mud and saw the posting where you said you had bought it...I posted BUY FAIL being a smart arse and later thought better of it once I saw how pissed off he was. Thus the edit moments after I posted it. Then and now it was a jerk move and I apologized for saying it.

But I will in no way apologize for buying the car. For all I knew when I bought it Hawgleg was a Russian or Nigerian scammer, I had no idea that he was a mudder (not sure that would of mattered either as long as it was for sale by the neighbor). I got pinged on Autotrader, didnt even see it here until after I bought it. I was in Miami at the bank 15 hours after seeing it in my alerts. Thats how it goes sometimes.

what some people will do to make a couple of dollars....

True, and yet you'd be so surprised how many deals just come down to taking action and not about "making a couple of dollars". We ALL want a DEAL on things, everyone enjoys "the hunt" for a said deal...I can assure you that its not always about money, you have to grind on these sellers and take a chance sometimes. I took a 1 way ticket to Miami not knowing 100% for sure if it would be available. This time it paid off. I will miss 20 others. Thats the way it goes and I'm ok with that. I certainly wont apologize for providing for my family by doing something I love and am good at.

FWIW, I would like to add that though I feel ok with my deal with the sellers, and did not screw Hawgleg over (intentionally or directly knowing anyways...I have been in his shoes MANY times and understand how he feels 100%.) I have offered to pay for his plane ticket that he said he purchased as an act of good faith and gave him first shot to buy it. (he offered what I had "in it") Still waiting for the receipt on the plane ticket.

I have bought over 20 vehicles from mudders and very rarely hoe out my listings on here...I pay quickly and make it easy with no games or BS and have found people like dealing that way. This one was an alert from Autotrader...if you are not set up with these alerts or the newer Craigslist search tools (debugged and updated ones that arent shut down) you are missing the boat and 9 times out of 10 the vehicles are sold or the listing removed prior to you knowing about it. My 2 cents worth nothing.

You should at least advertise on Ebay as a dealer instead of private seller. That seems unethical.

While I am a licensed dealer, I applied for instant title in MY name and paid the taxes with the NCDMV thus making me a PRIVATE SELLER on this vehicle. I can legally do this with 4 cars per year and have not done one yet this year. Not unethical at all. Hope this provides some clarity. Tax and title on this was $180 and change.

To be legit it seems like there is a lot of defensive typing to justify actions.

Don't worry, what you mudders lack in general investigative skills you more than make up for in Cruiser knowledge. If someone accuses me of scamming, being unethical or shady, I feel the need to defend myself. No worries, I slept fine last night. Too many people assuming things they know nothing about.

Car was for sale. Now sold. End of thread.
