SOLD! BEAUTY: 1982 FJ40 Stage 3 Resto. from Proffitt's. Denver, CO $17,500

It is with huge regret and a few tears that I am posting my 40 for sale here. I am selling to help with a down payment on a new house... I have an 9 month old, and another on the way in Nov... and we need more space, not a cruiser (unfortunately).
But enough of the sappy story - on to the 40.
I had Proffitt's restore her pretty much exactly to her original state - I wanted to keep the heritage of the 40 alive in this one. She runs strong (will cruise at 80 no problem) starts well, rides smooth (shackle reversal), and boy does she turn heads. Honestly I feel like a celebrity when I drive it - it is unreal. It was my daily driver for about a year before I got another car with the thoughts of keeping the 40 for summertime and weekend rides only. It has always been garaged and pampered - ask the folks at Proffitt's.
Here are some details:
Late year 1981, Stage 3, frame off restoration done in 2007 by Proffitt's Cruisers in Delta, Colorado. Original 2F engine with just over 101K miles. ARB rear locker. Purchased in 2004 from Cruiser Solutions in NH with about 95,000 miles on it. Still has original manual and tool kit.
Restoration highlights: Nordic Blue paint job (orange peel style), Powercoated frame, speedliner on tub undercarriage, shackle reversal (1” lift, smoother ride), power steering added (toyota mini-truck pump), replaced master and slave cylinders, engine tune-up, and more.
New items during or after restoration: Heritage 1/2 tub, front fenders, front bumper and rear bumperettes, Yokohama tires (less than 500 miles), Tuffy box, all emblems, OEM fog lights, OEM floor mat, seat belts, turn signals, euro mirrors, weather stripping, OEM bib, Bilstein 5125 shocks, new upholstered seats, powdercoated wheels, powercoated frame, new exhaust, CD/MP3 in Tuffy box, custom speaker mounts near kick vents, new headliner, replaced gas tank.
Things that need attention (c'mon, there had to be some bad news):
There are 3 areas that will need attention in the next few years if you want to keep her looking as good as she does now. There is some surface rust under the floorboard near both front doors. It is not bad, and not even that visible - but in Colorado that use Mag Chloride in the winter - and although I wash her weekly and rarely drive in snow, it is impossible to get it all out. Also the seam behind the drivers door will need to be refinished at some point. It has a thin split. I took it into 2 shops today for estimates to grind, repair, and repaint all three areas - the first one came in at $900 (this was a quality shop in Denver) and the second came in around $1200 (this was a verbal quote from a guy that restores hi-end vintage cars). I have the actual paperwork for the first quote. I certainly took this into consideration when pricing her, and if I were to keep her, it would be work that I wouldn't do for at least 2 years - and I am very picky. See photos for close ups of these issues.
The speedo cable also broke a few months ago and I haven't ordered a new one yet. She also drips a little oil, but I have never had to fill between my regular maintenance schedule.
Since the restoration she has only seen pavement and lots of love.

I would consider a trade for a newer 4Runner (05 and up). I'd also look at a clean trade for a 100 series if it is in great shape with low miles (see: https://forum.ih8mud.com/vehicles-t...4709-2003-landcruiser-61k-miles-colorado.html, for example). I'd have a Subaru to sell if that was the case, but it would at least keep me in the Cruiser family!
I really want her to go to a great cruiser-loving home, so I am holding off on Ebay and Craigslist for now. Thanks for reading. Enjoy the photos.
