Yukon or bust

I am off for the first 10 day's of July, My wife wants to do the Kootney's and Ab badlands. I have wanted to head up to the Yukon for ever. it's 2400 km's give or take , depending on route to White Horse. That's 3 day's driving with 8 and 5 year old girls . 1 or 2 day's to kick it around there and then the long haul back - maybe a bit too much trip for such a short time off.

Plan is to tent / and hotel it . And to take the Big Bad Burb .

My wife and I did 14,000kms in 14 days when she was 5 months pregnant. Oh, and it was to Belize and back in the middle of summer...and a BJ60 doesn't have AC. You can do it. Hate to see the fuel bill on the Suburban though. Probably makes my 80 seem like a Hybrid.

Not overly worried about fuel I think once were up and running every thing would be o.k. My Dad took my sister and I on a road trip from Vancouver to New York when I was 15 we did the trip in a 1972 Pontiac Lemans we hotel'ed it everywhere I believe we were gone about a month we criss crossed back and forth across both countries hitting all the big cities. I do remember my father threatening to leave me in Ottawa after one fight between my sister and I.

I think with the time you have you would be better off using it closer to home to get more enjoyment time.

I would think 3 days in the Yukon is just enough to make you want to go back even more. With the fuel cost and the time it takes to get up there you really need a good chunk of vacation (2-3Weeks) to truly see and enjoy the area and the drive up. With young kits it will no doubt be hard on them and your nerves having long driving days.

Agreed, I really am thinking about doing Williams lake to Bella Coola, I love the Chilcotin I was there from aged 2 to 20 - Maybe why my wife doesn't want to go there but I really want my kid's to see that there is life beyond the city life. My wife on the other hand was born in a city with a population of 7 million, when i was a kid my closest neighbor was 1 km away, my friends lived 6 km's away .

I also headed up into the Yukon as well as Alaska last summer with two of my friends. It was a great trip overall and I would like to do it again sometime. How far you wish to drive each day will dictate how long it takes. Rest/Sighteeing stops every couple hours made the long hauls less of a pain. I never realized just how big and diverse BC is until we drove through it. Made a video of the adventure. Here it is. https://vimeo.com/27598187
