Hi everyone -
Looking for input from those who have installed Yukon gears in their 80s. I am working on setting up my rear with 4.88s and an Eaton e-locker. Setting the initial pinion depth, I started just using the stock pinion shim, which measured 0.054. With that, I find that when I adjust the carrier to set backlash - when I get to a backlash of about .007, the ring gear contacts the housing on the bottom side (see picture). I went ahead and ran a pattern with it just backed off and the backlash at ~0.008. Looks like the pinion needs more shim. I have two questions:
1. Has anyone had to grind the diff case with Yukon 4.88 gears?
2. If you have installed Yukon 4.88 gears in the rear, do you remember how much pinion shim you used to get the correct depth?
Thanks,
Devin
