Looking for advice. My truck is stock height. I just bought a set of 285/70/r17 Goodyear Wrangler Territory M/T’s. So basically 33’s (32.7”). I want to go with steelies and was looking at 17x9” with +0 offset. My research says these almost assuredly won’t rub. Would love to have a bit of poke. Thoughts on a 17x9 with -12 offset ? I don’t want to have to deal with rubbing (and not ready to trim etc. right now as I plan to lift down the road) over an extra 12mm, but really would prefer that offset.

Below is as it is with 265/70/r17. Definitely needs bigger tires and different wheels.

I don't think you're likely to have rubbing issues with -12 wheels and 285s. I ran 305s on 0 offset wheels and original stock suspension for a long time, and had no rubbing. Tire edge would be in about the same location as 285s with -12. 9" run would push your combo slightly wider by 5mm, or 3/16

If you intend to take this combo offroad, I'd stick to an 8" wide rim for 285s.
I once had 295s on 10" wheels, and had beads leaking every time I took it offroad.
I later ran the same set of tires on 8" wheels and had no more issues

35s and 37s on 0 offset clear with no lift so 285s and a little offset should be fine. Love the paint colors 👍

I agree... stick to a 8 inch wide wheel or narrower. I believe Tacoma steelies are 7.5. Those wheels are awesome on an 80, IMO, but if you like wide tires, then that's not a good option. For 285s, I think that 7.5s would work.

Silver/Gray is one of my favorite 80 color schemes. Nice rig!

Check out this free calculator that offers great information on clearance, etc. for any combination of wheel size, tire size, and offset.
