I'll offer it up here to the SoCal guys first before general Miscellaneous for Sale section and Craiglist.

Selling my Miata to fund the cruiser rehab and the cruiser will be back as my daily driver.

As a result, I've now got an extra Yaesu FT-8800R Duel band ham radio. It comes with the 8900 extension kit. Radio is in excellent condition. I've only had it in the Miata a little over a year. This radio and extension kit retail right now for $380. Fleabay has them selling for a little over $300-320 out of Hong Kong...

$275 plus the ride and it's yours. I'll throw in a little inexpenive external speaker free.

I've also got a Diamond K400C w/ 6 ft coax. I use two of these mounts on my cruiser hatch and love them. One is for my ham antenna and one with a different connector for my CB Radio antenna. Both antennas have taken their wacks on trails and the mounts have been great. they have 2 axis adjustment that makes them mountable virtually anywhere. Obviously the mount on the Miata has not seen such abuse. :D Retail is $74.

$40 plus the ride and it's yours.

Both items come complete with install documents and all manuals. Those of you that know me, know I'm OCD anal and I do keep all my paperwork.

Mods - please leave this here for the SoCal guys before I post to the general forum. Thanks!

Interested in the mount. Is it NMO? Black? How do you like it? I am exploring way to mount antennas on my new 80. Not ready to drill the roof yet.

Great radio too BTW, I have one myself.

Brent, I am interested in the radio. Sending you a PM.

I'll get in line. If the other sales fall through, I'll take the radio and the mount. I'm still just up the road in Orange.

Mount is not the NMO. It's the PL259 if I recall the packaging I put it back into last night. It is black.

Here's a link to the model/mount I have.

Ham Radio Outlet | DIAMOND K400C | TRUNK LID MOUNT W/ 6' COAX

Let me know ASAP as both FJC8871 and Haddock are interested in both.

Based on time of either thread post or pm Bluto is 2nd in line for the mount only before FJC8871 and Haddock via pm.

I can take pics for anyone that wants them. This radio and mount have been in/on my commuter car, so extremely light duty! Not like the abuse in/on a cruiser!

I have standardized all of my antennas to NMO mounts. If not MNO I will have to pass. Good deal for someone!

Miata is being sold because the position of the seats in it aggravate my back. I'd be selling it regardless of the status of the truck. It just isn't going to work for me and my buldging disk anymore. Drove it yesterday just to get it out and keep the battery charged and my foot was tingling by the time I got home last night. Not what I can keep doing.

Truck is down with John at SD Trux. Cylinder head is cracked between 4 and 5! It was either missed by the machine shop that milled the head last January or occured subsequent to that - no way to really tell. That explains the coolant burning. They have run thru every other system on the truck looking for a cause of the 1-5-3 cylinder misfire and can't find any other cause than the cylinder head. Distributor, all hoses, EGR, O2's etc. etc all are checking out just great. Compression in all 6 cylinders was between 180-190 if I remember correclty what John told me. ECU is doing it's best to compensate for whatever it wrong and sometimes it's successful and sometimes there is the misfire. Even John noted that the truck ran fine at speed.

Anyway, with the Miata being sold it was either get the truck right or part it out and buy an FJ Cruiser. Drove the nephews FJC for a day. Nice, but it just IS NOT an 80. I know the new cylinder head and redo on the HG along with fixing an oil leak up front, fuel filter in the engine bay and replacing the throttle cable won't be cheap by any stretch of the imagination, I'd rather do that than saddle myself with a car payment for 5 years and also not have enough from selling the Miata/parting out/selling the LC to cover all I'd want to do on a new FJC.

Props to John and staff at SD Trux. I've had more informative conversations about the diagnostics they've done and the results, etc with John than anyone that's worked on the truck outside of Jay/Eric at Yotamaster when Jay discovered the tampered VAF. Most service writers could take customer communications lessons from either shop.

Damn, i didn't know you had the engine crack on you. Talk about crappy luck. Sorry to hear that.

That sucks Brent.

Thanks guys.

Yea, paying for the same job twice in a year blows BIG time...but it's still cheaper than a new truck and purchasing lift, bumpers, roof rack, skid plates. etc. that I already have on the 80.

No real recourse with the original shop either - std 90 day warranty on their work even tho I took the truck back twice during that period for the misfire.

John did say that unless the original machine shop was very familiar with 80 series head that the crack in this particular location was hard to detect. Conspiricy theorist in me wonders if they really did pressure test the head after milling and before reinstallation to begin with. Water under the bridge at this point.

Know anyone looking for a clean low mileage 2005 Miata?

That sucks about the cruiser.

If you decide to go the FJ Cruiser route, there is one on a lot by my house in the cool tan color that already has a ARB front bumper and snorkle mounted. :D

Bummer about the head Brent but I am glad you are keeping the 80. You have a nice rig and it would be a shame to part it out.

Damn; I need to check mud more often! I would have bought that radio and antenna Brent. At least it will go to someone local.

Glad to hear you're keeping the truck despite the problems, you'll be glad in the long run! You'd have to find a new forum, research all new equipment and maybe even find new friends ;-)

Yea - you are pretty scarce around here sometimes. Wish I'd have know. I know you already have a Yaesu HT.

Fingers crossed on the HG. You understand better than most being OCD and wanting that misfire gone! I'll scream if I spend all this money...again, plus the cost of the new head  and not have it solve the misfire.

Confident in the diagnostics John and company at SD Trux ran given the time he spent on the phone with me going over in detail everything they'd done to rule out all the other systems related to the engine.

Now to get a quick coat of Zaino on the Miata and get her up for sale. It's going to take everything I can get out of it over what I still owe to cover the new HG and new leather in the beast. If I'm keeping the truck, I'm ordering the leather kit from Shane. DS seat is trashed after 16 years. 2nd row isn't bad, just one small cut in it that I'll ask an upholstery shop if it's repairable. Tempted to just replace front and 2nd, all armrests and the center console so they'll match...OCD kicking in again!
