soooo hard

Funny I spent the weekend doing that. Not fun! They will come out. I took a socket at one end and a bolt (the pin size) on the other and squeezed them into the vice and hammered on the vice handle. One in particular took me hours. I think that I broke my vice :mad::mad: The trick is to apply your handy propane torch. Heat it up and then pound on it. If I had the torch it would have gone so much better. Tell you what tho my doors swing nice now!

I took a hacksaw and cut the pin into three pieces by sawing through the gap between the two hinge halfs. Then it is much easier to drive the small pieces out with a pin punch. You must be careful and use a fine hacksaw blade. The pins are hard, I used one blade per hinge.

I've seen two or three that mentioned a press.

I'm curious if the BFH will work or if I'm peeing in the wind:lol:

The BFH worked great for me, Lil'john. What I did was set the rig up on the floor so that I had a hard surface to drive against, using my best friend, the good ol 4 lb driiling hammer and a hard drift.

Whack it good.

Make sure you drive out the knurled end first. You should be able to see the knurled ends on the shaft.

Worked great.

Other results may vary. :meh:

:wrench: have ruined a couple of decent/well kinda sorta decent front hinges with my BFH; not talented enough with Riche's technique so short of time decided to take my remaining 4 to the local machine shop..........so for 160$:mad:they TOTALLY screwed them up!!! beyond repair:mad::crybaby:; like the idea of a jig like "cruiserbrett" has made up and would be more than happy to purchase one......I can screw things up by myself; don't need to pay someone to do it!!:bang:

I used a valve spring compressor to remove the springs from the spring load hinges then took the hinge appart just like the others. There hard to do anything with if the springs are not removed. You could also use a small pulley remover to compress the springs also.
