I know in theory I could graft some wheel wells to make the opening larger... but Don doesn't seem to want to touch that and I don't blame him

That's why I didn't run a larger size than the 37's I have now. Besides the wheelwell area, you'd have to refab the door bottoms & rear seats. I have a 2 1/2" bodylift, trimmed off the lip area & removed part of the inner well. I've taken as much out of that well as possible to maximize uptravel. I'm sure w/ an SOA you can jack it up real high to run 35's no problem :hillbilly: Too much interior refabbin to move the rear axle back, IMO.

unlike hamma mentioned above, i DO plan to move the rear axle back at some point, i want two things, less overhang and a bigger wheel well. my plan is to move the whole well back and increase the length enough to matter but not take away the stock looks of the lip or opening too much, but thats a different story and not really the point of your query so.

fender trimming really will depend on the uptravel you want, in my case i set the rig up to run 36" swampers, i did the bumpstops to just let the tires miss the roof of the well at full stuff. it was luck maybe that they fit in the uncut lips perfectly. i now run 37" PJ's and at full stuff the tires just barely rubbed the roof, i found out they were rubbing on the screws that hang down in there, once ground smooth i no longer notice rubbing. on the still uncut lips i have no rubbing on the back and just enough on the front to see the skid marks on the sliders i built, they are smooth so i dont worry about that. i would think if your bumpstops are set correctly you will be just fine with that trimming you want.

it sounds easy dont it??

my plan of attack is to move the axle back about 8" then i want to move the whole wheel well with it. i dont plan much use for the rear doors in the near futures and am thinking of just doing away with them and the rear seat in favor of something more like a 70 series troopy. my plan to make the wheel well longer is simply to add 2" strip of sheet to the center of the well.

i dont mean to hijack, but this seems like a good place to talk a bit about wheelwell mods yeah?
