I've got two issues around the gas door.

1) My gas door has no handle on it... just a pair of holes. This begs the question, what does the stock door handle look like? Anyone have any ideas on what to do for a replacement? SOR doesn't show a thing for it:rolleyes:

2) My fuel neck had a bunch of corrosion and such. Plus, I'm going to weld an anti siphon device in it (aka expanded metal at the bottom:rolleyes: (@#^%@# thieves)) So, what are my choices for coating this? Powdercoating and paint is out due to the gas. Is zinc, chrome, or other plating my only gas resistant choices? Or is there something I've missed?

John have one in a box will go look at it. Dont remember the handle? A later model one would be a great upgrade though...on accounta they have gas door locks...no handle...just the key as a handle when you unlock it. What kind of paint is it that is holding up in my gas doors on the 55 and the 40?

With the lock. "boltable"...think the inner tabs are pretty strong and the body tab likely is fixed to a rib behind the interior cargo panel (don't know--have not looked). But I know what you mean...thinking of today's thieves, I am considering the overkill on an internal locking gas cap...after that kudos to them for wasting the time on my small tank... which I only half fill during the week

BTW, I will go look at the condition of my filler neck. And You will add photo's of your BMW door idea yes?

i thought the lockable gas door was standard on the FJ 55 can someone correct me if im wrong plz

Mid-70's on. Big gas shortage, the start of lots of gas theft. I believe. But mid 70's on is regardless the begining of lots of lockable gas doors and caps.
