I've seen this before with other sites and I can't remember specifically what's behind it. The period (.) at the end of the URL is key, but I've seen it from gmail too. Always with IE. I think there is a DNS/rewrite rule that can patch the server to fix the IE fxxxup. I'll do some digging.
 
had to be something in how your connection is routed, since I haven't noted any issues on it

did some changes mid-week on the servers, but nothing that would have effected that....and it would have been a BIG issue for lots of folks had it been messed up ;)

(might be shopping soon too...looks like an image server is on the shopping list....)
