If you have found crap in your tank, and crap in your filter, I would remove the top of your carb, and make damn sure there is not something in there raising hell. A small peiece of crud will do amazing thigns to the fuel delivery system, and could be the reason you are having running issues, as has been suggested here already...
As far as the 'chunks' in your oil pan....
Get it running first, and then you can worry about the bottom end.
