Hi Guys,
So I got screwed for this long weekend and had to work. I had to drive to Kamloops, Vernon, Kelowna, then a little place called Naramata (just North of Penticton). Well I managed to finish the Vernon gig earlier and decided to take a fun cut to Kelowna. I took the trail from Coldstream (just east of Vernon) to Oyama (between Vernon and Kelowna). The trail is called King Edward Lake FSR, then it meets Oyama Lake FSR. The main trail is boring and a large FSR (damn close to being a highway) but the side trails are fun. Also there are several nice lakes there and a really nice look out over Kalamalka Lake. There is once trail there that has a climb that is about 30 deg. and would probably need front and rear lockers (since I was running solo I decided not to be stupid and try it). I'm uploading pics to my flickr site now so they should be there later tonight.
There are a lot of trails up there that we might want to consider for a weekend trip.
Well back to reality for now (and work). If I finish early I am thinking of taking the Princeton-Summerland FSR back home (maybe a couple of side trails too). I'll let you know how it goes.

At first when I heard that I had to work over the entire weekend and then some I though that I was screwed for any fun. Luckily I managed to finish my Vernon contract earlier and ther rest is above. I love being a contractor!
Bill - even before I had a cruiser I was a motorhead, and I can onestly say that almost every vehicle I ever owened was a Toyota. It just took me a little longer toget the truck I always wanted.

So I finished the job I had in Naramata (just North of Penticton) and due to the time frame I was unable to do the Princeton-Summerland FSR but I did have a chance to take the Green Mountain Rd, to the Apex Mountain Rd, to the Hedley-Nickel Plate FSR. With stunning views from the side trails at Apex, countless ski trails just large enough in some spots for a truck. I spent the evening overlooking the country side from a mountain top 2000+ Meters above sea level, surrounded by wildlife and a little bit of snow. I managed to get down to Highway 3 just after sunset. The trip was a success and definitely worth the detour. I will have pics on Flickr tomorrow.

Almost forgot, on the way into Naramata from Kelowna I managed to take the Chute Lake FSR and road. All I can say is if you need to get from Kelowna to Penticton, take that route. Amazing views overlooking Kelowna, in the fall a stunning contrast between the colours of the trees and the harsh reminder of the summer fires. Once at Chute Lake there is a cabin/resort there and a place to stop, have a coffee and some food (yes, there is a snack and coffee shop there). There are more trails across the vast mountains there but I ran into 1 that was abandoned. There is a trail between the Chute Lake FSR and Lakeshore Dr (Kelowna) through Cedar Creek Regional Park, that is no longer fully accessible. Since I was coming in from the Kelowna side I had to turn around and head the other way, but it was not a loss at all. At the top of the trail there is a house with an older gentelman and his daughter that are very friendly and don't mind if you go exploring on their property. They also have a Landcruiser (in the pics) which they still use (but don't want to sell).

There are lots of neat trails anfd FSRs out here.. If any of you guys come out this way, be sure to drop me a line. I've only lived here a year so far but have explored the trails quite a bit out here. There is some pretty neat stuff along the old KVR line too..

Little tunnel 130ft (you can drive throuhg):
