On Saturday September 29th, the Wisconsin Off-Highway Vehicle Association (WOHVA) and friends will be signing in at the Lakewood District Rangers Office of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (CNNF) at 8:30 am. At 9:00am, the group will split up and head to the Pipeline 4X4 Trail Corridor in the CNNF. The focus is an effort to clean up trash, have a good time and prep the area upcoming trail r
epair and rehabilitation. Lunch will be provided (FREE) to all volunteers on the trail. After lunch volunteers will be able to recreate on The Pipeline.

If you’re lookin’ to go wheelin’ and have never been to The Pipeline before, this is your chance to visit the area with some fellow wheeler’s that have experience in the area.

Thanks! WOHVA Volunteers ROCK!

Is there a way to get a notification of when these events are taking place. I have done them in the past and now that it appears the pipeline is closed for the most part i would like to get more involved.

All events posted in the above link as well as in the forums at www.wohva.com many months in advance. Also posted on FB weeks in advance.

Only parts of the pipeline are closed. Work has begun on remediation due to exposed pipe, progress is slow at the moment but the amount of work done by the NFS, DNR and Pipeline owner in the last two months is more than I have seen since 1997.

We would love to have more help so I'll make an effort to post up here much sooner. Thank you for your interest! It was a beautiful day. Check out WOHVA on FB for some great pics.

Thanks I will check them out on Facebook. I would love to get some more places in Wisconsin to go out for a day wheeling trip.

...which was probably the last time I was there...

Well you still had the 9? Pickup and were playing shutterbug, I remember that.
There is actually an access road (NFS rd 2101L) off of LaFave (NFS rd 2102) that allows access to the pipeline corridor for semi carrying a large track hoe, dozer, etc and allow traffic for quad axle dumps. The present grant waiting to be funded (nothing funded due to no federal budget) for the past two years was to build this road with donated materials from the NFS quarry near Peshtigo, labor paid for by stewardship monies from timber contracts in the Nicolet National Forest and matched with volunteer hours by WOHVA for the manual labor we have done during the grant application months and the years since approval. The NFS and Pipeline company did it in a day. No Environmental Assesment, no public comment period, no protesters, no permit, no beurocracy just dirt and dozers. Considering the Pipeline is nearly the only area left it would be nice to see some organized challenge areas, sustainable trail design, formal bypasses for safety and maintenance vehicles, parking areas and possibly even toilet facilities to stop the outbreak of rambling brown speckled white flower. This is all in discussions but first the area must be made safe and continue to heal.

Funds from the proposed OHV sticker program could assist with the maintenance and enforcement required to keep the pipeline safe and open. Funds would also be directed towards the Wisconsin Off Road Vehicle Park. Read more @ www.WORVPI.org

If you guys would like any other updates I'm happy to help. If I don't know the answer I'll find out.

What type of OHV vehicle/user numbers does the Pipeline see in a year?

Other than clean up dates, I don't know of anyone that goes there anymore.

(Actually, my last time there might have been when C "wheeled" her Honda Civic there...we did have to spot her a couple times...)

I do remember the Civic incident. The rock hill "Thunder Mountain" is washed back to some of it's former entertainment value. The bypass is also washed to a challenge for a stock vehicle.

Presently (2012) user numbers are deemed to be in the hundreds due to partial closures. My time up there in May and this past month concur. 2011 was over 5,000 for the year including the holiday weekends well knows for camping and vehicle traffic. Fall traffic will pick up a bit for hunters but not much.

It would be nice to build off some of the more challenging areas that the pipline already offers. Not so much the mile deep mud holes but the rocks and other climbs that are there. From what I have seen in the past at other work days the biggest issue is shedding water as it leads to the pipe exposure that seems to close the trail do to the major saftey concern. Any updates that you can provide would be great.
