I really could have used one of these last weekend. Ended up driving about 400 miles w/o PS. Smoked a deer as I was leaving town and my passenger side tires pretty much jumped her after she hit my bumper centered up at a dead run. Jerked the steering wheel pretty hard to one side. I’d be willing to bet that’s what caused my pump to sh*t this plug and dump its fluid. Steering got heavy not long after the impact. So I’ll bet there’s something to this being a pressure relief of sorts. 
80 wasn’t damaged at all though, so I’m lucky. Other pump is torn apart on the bench waiting to be cleaned and reassembled tonight after work.
