Hello all-sorry for posting and asking for help so much….as I stated before, electrical is my kryptonite—though each problem and wisdom from all of you is bringing my knowledge up from the basement.

Doing another test drive on the 15 year restoration completion hit some heavy rain and found out low/high speed wiper not working-only wash and intermittent.

I’ve studied the manual (BE; 23-24 plus electrical diagram 3-attached) and looks like if no MUD shortcuts, will need to go through full testing process for relays (2-?) and switch harness.

Interesting that the manual doesn’t specify which relay does which functions—my first thoughts;

1-a bad relay that runs low/high? That would be easiest by far….

2-a fried power wire(s) associated with low/high?

3-? What does ‘wiper lock’ refer to on attached electrical diagram? Refers to a relay—and an S/W (what’s s/w?). Look in middle section of attached.

4-on attached diagram there seems to be 2-full wiper systems…? On left one relay; on right 3-relays-BUT they also seem to be interconnected in middle at wiper lock..?

Sorry-again the more I study the more I’m confused..Plus: pages BE 23-24 dont talk about 3- relays.

If anyone has some shortcuts or clarification-I would be VERY grateful!!

I have multiple degrees and PhD’s from the U of A; ‘the University of Adversity…none I sought after…all I’ve paid in-full for….as I’m sure all of you have as well……here’s hoping some of you have gone before me in this area of expertise and can be my teacher….self taught only goes so far.

I’ve pulled he relays-found 3; that makes me think my system is closest to the right side of the diagram above…though some wire colors match the left diagram.

I’ve still not figured out what an S/W is nor a wiper lock—anyone know?

Next I will start the relay testing noted in BE 23 -24, try and figure this out-

Any help would be appreciated.

Wow-electrical is such a ‘process’!
Took a few days off for other projects..and honestly to get motivated to possibly ‘fail again’..

Asking God for help—followed the FM diagnostic details and today tested the wiper motor; worked perfectly on all 3-speeds.

Moved next to page BE-23, near the bottom and was continuity testing the wiper arm positions-all great—BUT if you look at the FM pin diagram it has pins 16-17-21: the wiper control on rig has one but not all 3-but then looking at the 2-spare wiper control units we have; neither of the 2-spares has those 3-pins??

Ok-pretty challenging when none of the 3-turn/wiper controls match the manual—

‘He’ said to: ‘plug and play’ with all 3-units; installed one only works on intermittant, 2-spares without 3-pins WORK on all speeds!

Thinking back on this restoration;
1-years ago bought a spare control unit
2-bought an 87FJ60 12 volt parts rig for body swap

During restoration/assembly I looked at turn/wiper control units and no 12v or 24v markings and physically they looked exactly the same..so figured Toyota used same for both volts…so picked best looking one for install..which being newer 87’ I’m guessing that was the 12v FJ unit—

So, assuming was wrong-but I had nothing else but looks of parts to go on—till now; I’ve marked the parts to tell them apart.

Gods wisdom: He’s helped me through so much head scratching over these past 15 years of restoration!!

Cleaned up the best working unit and will let it dry overnight for install tomorrow and then we are done.

…less pins than FM, what a minor detail that made all the difference!

Well-I believe this was the last ‘issue’ keeping me from my ‘walk about’ road trip through parts of Idaho and Montana to celebrate the completion of this 15 year process-some more to wrap up around the place—in a week better weather then we hit the road!!
