Im about ready to make the jump from 33s to 35s on my 96 80 series and im looking for some thoughts on a tire.
Im planning to do some pretty extensive trips across North America during the winter as im out of the country in the summer. For instance I'm looking at a trip from Ohio up the Dempster highway (as far north as you can drive) down to Baja, over to Utah and then back to Ohio all in the December to March time. There will be several similar trips over the next 3-4 years.
These trips will be a lot of touring on road, with plenty of rough/ back roads in remote locations. im no rock crawler, but i will do some trails in Baja, Utah, and play in the sand and snow. Nothing too technical, but a TON of different terrain.
I do realize 35s aren’t needed for this kind of touring, but if im gonna spend money on tires i may as well get something i want.
I’ve been running Goodyear Duratracks, and I’ve been pretty happy with them over the last few years and im probably going to run them again.
But with all of my trips being in the winter over the next couple years im thinking it may be worth looking at a true winter tire like the Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta LT3 or something similar.
Has anyone run a winter tire like these in sand or on more mixed terrain like Baja or the southern US has to offer? Im sure they will wear quick and not do the best off road, but maybe it’s worth it for all the road miles if they aren’t too bad off road or in deep snow.
I’ve considered Studding the Duratracks, but some states don't like that too much, and studded tires aren’t too great on dry asphalt so if i go with Duratracks again ill keep chains on hand.
TLDR anyone use a dedicated winter tire in deep snow, sand or rocks?

Would Recommend a different AT tire than the Duratracks?
