Anyone recently replaced windshield with dealer OEM and can confirm where the glass was made and what the DOT number is etched on the glass in the corner?
My insurance attempted 2 Chinese glass installs, both terrible, now they are considering OEM.
My dealer can't tell me, says has to be ordered from Japan.
Insurance tells me Toyota OEM will be MADE IN CHINA!! Come on!!

i'd been putting off replacing my pitted windshield after my insurance co made some sort of corporate arrangement with safelite, that is until a gravel truck made this unavoidable. not sure where their glass comes from but they offered "gold" or "green" tinting and did a superb job replacing it. no leaks. just fyi.

I didn't have the same luck, the only windshields available are DOT563 made in China and they are distorted, mirror mount hits the roof, light tint, etc.
Appears insurance will now pay for OEM if I can prove who makes the glass for Toyota and the DOT stamping making it superior to aftermarket.
Hoping someone from a Toyota dealer can comment or someone has recent pictures of what the dealer supplied. Part number on this one is 56111-60302

Safelite is Geico owned from what I understand; all their glass is from china in my experience. Have one on my LX and my sons 4R, I recall the color choice when it got changed.

Got front and rear glass and both came with made in Japan stickers. To be removed by consumer, stuck on them.

Thank you!! Any chance of checking the DOT number on your windshield bottom corner? Did you get these recently?

I recently had mine replaced with FYG. I know Chinese but seems good.

Here a link to my recent windshield adventures as well as an embedded link to lookup all the DOT number information.

Windshield edge distortion?

Can't speak for all dealers, but around here they all seem to outsource their glass work, so not surprised they can't tell you those details.

Thank you for the link, good info.

I had an APtech and a PGW installed, they are both DOT563 China.

Had a Pilkington, request a Pilkington, get email confirmation that Pilkington now buys all 100 series glass from DOT563 China!!

It appears OEM is the only choice now. Both tries at DOT563 were a total failure.

May be a crapshoot. My PGW 563 is pretty good quality. I went through 3 FY brand, DOT459's that sucked...

I feel for the installers that have to install this garbage. Is your mirror mount tight to the roof? Mine the mirror almost touches the headliner making it difficult to adjust the mirror.
Biggest concern is the distortion, first one had horizontal sag distortion right in front of the driver, this PGW has vertical distortion over 3/4 of the windshield, completely undriveable at night, headlights turn the windshield into a mirror from the refraction of light. During the day things appear to be moving when they are not! Tint also appears very light and the tint band is almost non-existant, blinding in the sun. All wrong.

I've only had my recent experience with Safelite. I stood next to the installer throughout the process. Installed FYG Chinese made glass. No issues with the rear view mirror. Glass seems solid. No issues.
Sorry to hear about your experience.

just had mine replaced through my insurance company (allstate) I asked for OEM and got approval a day later and just had mine installed. everything seems good. heres the DOT from the lower corner. hope it helps those looking

The OE glass supplier is Asahi/Asahima (AGC) and made in Japan. However, the company has since began production in Indonesia and I'm guessing that is where it'll come from when you order Toyota replacement glass.

My FYG is DOT 459 (I think all FYG is 459?). I have had no issues and the quality seems good. Not all Chinese is crap, although a lot of it is.

I think it is important to inspect the glass before install and find a knowledgeable installer.

I use this guy in the San Diego area, Larry is familiar with the Land Cruisers.
