Looking to get all the components for my replacement WS frame ready for paint, discovered the gasket in my vent door was cracked and broken. I got a new SOR gasket with the truck so I'm good there. Digging out the old one was a PITA- then I remembered I just bought what was supposed to be a 64 frame complete. Looked it over and it has the two piece vent door that fasten together with studs and nuts. Am I lucky enough that the later model two piece vent will be a direct replacement for my original one piece vent door? Looking for some inoput before I pull the 64 frame apart. Thanks, gary S

Thanks

Cruiser Nerd- thanks for the reply, I enjoyed your blurb on installing the gasket and am glad I have a two piece door to install. I'm no purist that's for certain.

I have another question- I did get a new windshield glass to frame weatherstrip with the truck, came from Sepecter, along with another piece, think it's called a "key". Is there a blurb on the 25 forum about installing window glass? And finally- is the glass in my spare 64 windshield the same as on the 62 frame? Looks to be and I am hooping it is- the glass in the 64 frame actually looks useable. If not good enough it at elast can be a template for the glass shop. Thanks again for any and all help. Gary

I don't know if there is a windshield replacement thread here, probably in the 40 section. The glass is the same. I recently posted something in the parts thread sticky with the numbers for the glass and weatherstrip on the invoice, parts guy said at the time that there was only one glass left in the US at the time.

Is the 25 windshield frame from a hard top or soft top? Post a picture of you 25 frame or at lest make sure it has the flange with the hole for the hard top on the sides. Hate for you to go to all the work of painting and installing glass only to find out isn't not correct. The mounting system on the early hard top wasn't the best across the windshield so I would want all the mounting points there.

windshield frame and glass

The frame that was supposedly from a 25 looks exactly like the original on my 62- and yes it has the attachment points for the L shaped brackets that secure the door opening header to the windshield. I was surprised to see that unlike the later 40 tops that attach to the front of the WS framer with two screws that apparently the older tops lacked this way to attach.

I actually have another older WS frame, don't even remember where I got it. that has some funky piece on top of it. Looked like it could have been part of a soft top system, will dig it out and take some pictures in the near future.

I installed all the glass including the windshield in my 76 FJ40 and for that truck bought a new glass from Cruiser Corps and a new gasket from CCOT. That one didn't need a "key". I will look through the 40 section to see if there is anything detailing this item, otherwise I guess I'll figure it out when time comes to install the glass.

Thanks again for all the information and assistance. gary

Even the soft top has the threaded holes for the L backet but in the early years it was part of the header not a separate L bracket. The hard top had another mounting hole outside the door as well. No mounting holes in the middle. The 66 to 74 models used four bolts. Starting in 75 that number was reduced to two.

If the piece your talking about is a spot welded channel might be a factory soft top windshield. Up until around 66 that piece was spot welded on. After that it was bolted on even on models that came from the factory as a soft top.
