Last month I decided to finally replace my windshield that has had a few chips in it for a few years now. I did the ICBC claim $200. I had a small rust spot at the bottom of it where it was leaking a bit so I brought it to a body shop to have it repaired while the windshield was out. Cost me a good bottle of Scotch. The windshield was installed by Shortstop. It leaked a lot more once the windshield was installed. It leaked in a new spot and the old leak was worse. It leaked onto a fuel relay so the truck wouldn't start. Bought a used one. Had Shortstop reseal it 2 times and it still leaks. 3 days after the second reseal the new windshield cracked all the way from bottom to top. Shortstop says a rock hit it right at the bottom where the rubber is. There is a microscopic chip right at the rubber line. I went to ICBC to see if the shop was at fault and they said if the windshield is chipped below the rubber it is Shortstops fault. Shortstop refuses to pull the window to check but they did give me a new windshield at their cost.

I need a recommendation for a good windshield installer who can vouch for me if it is the previous installers fault. ICBC will then deal with Shortstop and pay the installer. If there is no chip I will pay the installer.

Sorry about the novel, but my wife says I need to learn to communicate better. Grunting doesn't seem to work well. I am learning.

just got mine replaced on my 94, did it at apple auto glass, no problems, did the icbc thing with roadstar so i got a courtesty car and everything, thats where peace arch toyota sublets their vehicles, call them, tell'm matt with the green cruiser recommended them, talk to "gilles" i think his name was, they werwe awsome, get them to get the oem gasket and urethane the gasket to metal and gasket to glass

The only problem with getting a new seal (gasket) and all the rubber is that it is not covered under the windshield claim. I had this out with ICBC 2 years ago. Apparently the rubber is part of the body so the deductible goes from 200 to 300. Bastards! But if the new shop can prove that they cannot reuse it and it's the other guy's fault then they can pass the cost along hopefully. Dumbest rule ever! Just keep that in mind. As for shops....the last time I had someone do the back window they screwed it up and it looks like crap, good thing they closed down. So hard to find good places.

back windows do yourself. don't trust anyone to do it. My wife has gotten good at windows on a 60.

The gasket on yours might be not so supple anymore. It may be time for a new one.

The chrome ring keeps the glass in the gasket. Not the window in place.

You could do your own windshield. The FSM describes it pretty good.

But if you want an installer... maybe take it to a autobody shop.

You have to use sealant around the gasket(rubber) when it goes on. The FSM shows where.
