Winch motor anyone?

This is all from memory, so don't quote me!

Planetary box design, did some looking into it. The more stages a planetary box has, the weaker it is. The only winch to use a single stage box is the Superwinch X/S series. Not only is it single stage, but the gears are HUGE. They Dwarf any other winch gear box. The X/S gearbox is rated to pull above 22,000 lbs. Funny that Superwinch's new EP series has a 3 stage box... maybe 3 sounds better than 1? Needle bearings are not cheap, for that matter, no ball bearing is cheap. Cheap bearings are called plain bearings or bushings. The X/S box uses needle bearings in the 3 planet gears.

Motor design. Iskra Motors are a good bang for the buck motor, at least the robot building folk seem to think so (who would know about motors than these guys?). They have ball bearings, large brushes, and a heavy wall case. They fall short in the armature windings, less copper than many designs. If it overheats, the lighter copper armature has the potential to crap out. Iskra builds the armatures for Bosch motors..... I hope Bosch specs more copper as that is what Warn uses. :D

More if you want.
