Really basic question - that even might be stupid. I own a FJ62 and I'm really comfortable in it I could drive it all day long. My size; I'm 6' 4" and weigh about 235lbs.

I would like to purchase a FJ40 1978. Will I fit? Comfortably? I've never driven one of these, I've been looking at them for the last 10 years and finally I might be able to afford one. The one I'm looking at is out west so I can't test drive it. I just love it from the photos.

Advice would be appreciated.

Well you could find someone locally to you who has a 40 and see if you fit! Not sure where you live. I have a 72 with stock seats...If you want to try it out....I live in the far NW burbs..

Great idea! I live in Chicago on the near north side in the Lincoln Park area. My wife and I own a car wash called Simon's Shine Shop but we never get FJ40s in here. If there is someone in the area who has one can come in for a free hand wash if I can sit in your FJ40! This only applies only for 7/26 and 7/27/2007. I'll just be too busy this weekend to have freebees in here. Otherwise call look us up www.simonsshineshop.com and give us a call and let me know when you can come in. Thanks in advance.

I'll tell you straight up... it will be a little tight. I had a '77 and witht he seat allt he way back I was comfortable. It was all stock with stock seats and I am 5'9" 180lbs. The good thing about a 40 is that it would be pretty easy to fab up an extended seat bracket. The other thing is you mentioned comfortable and 40 in the same sentence. :-) The two don't really go together. There are no creature comforts and the ride can be from mildly harsh to very harsh depending on the springs you have on there and the weight on them. Don't get me wrong, they are very cool trucks and I regret selling mine every day, but definitely try and drive one before you buy one and ship it out here. Good luck. Keep your eyes open around the north side.. I've seen a few 40s around here.

Thanks for your help. I guess I really didn't mean "comfortable" - I just want to make sure there's room for my fat head. But I guess the biggest concern is leg room so the place is going to move the seat back 3 inches so my knees don't block the windshield. If I don't fit my wife will drive it (she's 5' 2"). I decided to get it after 10+ years of dreaming. Hope to see you on the road with my white 78FJ40 in about 2 to 3 weeks.

I'm here pretty much every day - 7 days a week (you know small business owners). I may know who you are. Is your 79 40 red? Charlies' jag was in here Saturday with his "driver". Please stop by before I wire $ late next week. Thanks.

I have a 79 40 and work very close to your shop, I could stop by perhaps monday morning the 30 if you are around? Just let me know.

Thanks for stopping by today. Your truck is great I love it - more importantly, I fit! Lots of headroom and my legroom was fine. I'm surprised, it was really roomy in there! I hope you're pleased with the wash. I know your not used to the shine ... don't worry it'll wear off in a couple of weeks. I'll let you know when the 40 comes in.

No problem was my pleasure. The wash is great and your crew does a great job. I think it is TOO clean for a 40 might have to get it dirty before people start talkling!. Please let me know when yours gets in would love to see it.
