I'm new to Ih8mud but not new to the 120 platform. I've also done a search but couldn't find any answers. I don’t want to make this a Wildpeak vs. KO2 discussion so let’s not go there. However, because of all the internet noise, I’m about to make the switch from KO2’s to Wildpeak AT3W’s. I want to see if any of you have experience with Wildpeaks 285 70 17 in C load (not so common… YET)? If so, how do you like it?

Falken’s website states that they are 61.3 lbs per tire. BFG’s KO2’s in 285 70 17 are 50.33 lbs each. I used to have KO2’s in E and they were roughly 57lbs each. I didn’t like the stiff ride from the KO2 E. Since the Wildpeak C’s are heavier than the KO2 E’s, I’m wondering if it will be have the same stiff feel? My GX will be 75%/25% on/offroad. If the Wildpeaks ride too stiff then I may have to stick to KO2's. I have 2 small children and comfort will be the biggest deciding factor.

I have the 285/70s in E rated and I don't regret it. I've had them for about 14k miles now, also have a 2 year old. I don't notice much difference over the michelin defender LTX that were on there when I got it. They don't ride like rocks, and I generally run ~38-40 psi for day to day use. Also, I live in Utah, where driving on normal roads is basically off roading at high speeds due to all the road damage/road work from the winter months.

They wear nice, and are quiet for an AT tire. Louder than my stock michelins, but not loud enough I can hear them with the windows up.
Off road, I've loved them. Lots of grip, good even when wet, great in the snow. After airing down a little off road the ride just becomes buttery smooth. It's a tire I would highly recommend and would purchase again.

If my wife's 470 ever made it off road, she would have them too.

As for weight, looking at Falken's website, I'm not sure how the E rated are showing a lower weight than the C rated, but who knows? Magic technology?

Edit: I think the C rated is a new tire also, it wasn't offered when I bought mine. Hopefully you find someone that has purchased the C rated ones

Yeah I had noticed that too. I was looking forward to the AT3/W in 285/70/17 C but at that weigh it turns me off. It's pretty odd since the E rated dimension wise is larger and yet somehow listed 4lbs lighter? Makes no sense to me.

You know what's weird? I've been checking the Falken's website almost daily and last night they changed the specs on their E load tires from 58.9 to 63 lbs. This morning they changed it back to 58.9 lbs. As far as the C load tires, the specs went from 62.8 lbs to 61.3 lbs last night. This morning they changed it back to 62.8 lbs. Odd..

Anyway, I contacted Falken last week and two different reps stated that their 285 70 17 C load tires were made specifically for the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, which needed more weight. I really wish they had a C load tire that weighed close to KO2's in C load.

so is that a no-go on the passenger rated 285's?

i'm on those right now and like them, but i haven't had a chance to take them off-road yet....

How do the Passenger rated, Standard load 285's compared to stock? Any difference with mpg or ride comfort?

I wouldn't mind getting the standard load passenger tires in 285's but I do take frequent trips to the Sierra's and explore a lot of the roads. Most are easy but there are some with a lot of rocks. There had been times in the past where I wasn't even confident in my KO2 C load tires.

I'm going to have to think this through.

Ride comfort with the P285 have been great so far... No different than michelin defenders that they replaced. And no notable change in MPGs.

Yah unfortunately no experience yet with these off-road...

Has anybody figure out why the C rated tires are heavier than the E rated tires. I am actually looking at a different size, 255/80R17 which only comes in E and trying to see if the ride quality is going to be too rough or if it is better to go with a 285/70R17 eventhough I would prefer a skinny for a few different reasons other than the look
