This is just a feeler to garnish information. I currently have a 3B/H55 with A/C and PS and want to swap it into a new vehicle. There are 60s and 80s that I could do, but would love a family pig. I have been tried to be talked out of it because parts are hard(impossible to find and it would be a major undertaking.
Whatever vehicle I get I really want to do a frame up rebuild before sinking the motor. I figured I would go to this forum for the answers. I don't think mechanical parts would be as difficult because I would use everything from the BJ. Don't I basically need a rolling frame and pretty good body? Overall, how noisy are they on the road? Is this swap even possible?
 
they're a little more noisy than the 60 series, but if you plan on restoing, you can put in sound deadener. the worst part will be the body work. body parts either aren't available or are expensive. you pretty much have to learn to make your own panels. for uniqueness, you can't get any better.:cheers:
 
I kinda second Igge. Uber-cool, but such coolness comes with complications, added expense, and at some point, some unsurmountable disadvantages.

I don't think a 3B/H55F combo will hold well on an 80, that's too heavy a pig (no pun intended) to really make that combo work, it would be much more at home in a 55.
 
i dont have much to add from all the above,,, its a fine project as long as you know what your getting into. a 55 can be built to equal any 80's era vehicle for noise and comfort, but its gonna take some work, time and money. if your good with that then i say go for it.
 
As someone who is still in the deconstruction phase of a full resto, I couldnt agree more with you RHINO,

I think you have to be passionate about bringing the pig back to life for it to happen.:p

a lot of stuff can be worked around. the pig w/s thread talks about all kinds of aftermarket w/s that can be used. there are tar tapes that will work to hold the glass in the channel if your rubber is bad. people have modded 70 series mirrors to work in place of the crackprone stockers.

you learn to be inventive with a pig.;)

Yep, you need to be inventive to do a Pig, but it sure is rewarding.
