Why is my heater so crummy?

I just laughed real good at those last two posts...

I hate rodents.

And by the way, the heater on my '76 wasn't working when I first got it going. I thought the core was rusty or plugged up, so I pulled the hoses from the firewall, and tried blasting it out with the hose... completely plugged... but it was the inline valve that the pull nob was attached to. I had never had another FJ55 and thought the nob was pulling out as far as it was supposed to- not even close. The valve was coroded and when it finally broke free... instant hot unrestricted hot glorious hot water to both the front and rear heaters.

now i know why they call them squirrel cages.....

i always thought it was cause they looked like the wheels the gerbils ran in, but i guess they'd be "gerbil wheels" then:grinpimp:

didn't find the rat, just droppings a nest and some fur:eek:+ it had eaten the cage down till there is only about 30/40% left of the blades:mad:

oh that's messed up!

no respect I tell ya!

owe this idea to.....shermantank55........... found these on JC Whitney
Fresh Air Duct Hose, 2-1/4"ID, 4-ft. ZX192245Y ; bought a section.......understand the originals are 2 inch I.D.,,,,,,,,but tired of cramming the originals with rotten rubbered duck tape back in with frozen fingers:bang: and figure with 2 1/2 inches SS clamps with a 1/4 inch drive extension and socket.............might be a bit easier:idea:;
will let y'all know how they work;:steer:

Any update on that 2 1/4 hose deal? Sounds like it might work.

Ditto the cold finger push ons that last until the next bump in the road. I'm about to hit it with duct tape for the time being.

my darn duck tape comes off usually at the worse possible time....believe the jc whitney ducts should be at my home this evening........will let y'all know how it goes with the 2 1/4 id :)

any sources for new duct hoses? have been looking for alternatives and these seem promising:steer:

Check my POTM thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj55-iron-pig-preservation-society/174972 post #78 for my solution to the deteriorating hose elbow problem. Silicone hoses are readily available stateside and it's a clean look.

I'm pretty sure I used the old cage on the replacement motor.

If the motor spins the opposite way then it will not work. You should be able to reverse wiring though to have it spin correctly.

heater hoses

OK, got the new JC Whitney heater hose in tonight.......look great; compare to my old hose on the front seat:frown: can take a very sharp curve w/o kinking BUT 2 1/4 is too small; :hhmm:will get the 2 1/2 inch and feel that it should do the trick along with a 2 3/4 hose clamp:cheers:

Looks decent enough. Best of luck. By the time I get around to it I'll be working on the rear window to get the heat OUT ;D. b.t.w.- How much was the duct tube? Cheap I assume?

Cruiser guy: I can feel air flow; it's just weak. I'll give that reverse spin theory a go though- always willing to try. Thanks-JJ

Duct was 11.99$ for a 4 ft section not including shipping from JC Whitney, could probably get 2 of the pieces we need for our blower box out of one section; will let you know how it goes with the 2 1/2 inch duct......

ok, follow up time on new ducts with pix.........installed the 2 1/2 inch duct from JCWhitney and used 2 3/4 inch clamps; a tight fit :steer:but it does not budge now the clamps are in place and gets the vent air where I need it; a few pix.........:steer:
