i have a friend that used a dana70 rear out of a ambulance. it was wide enough that he only had to shorten one side to get his offset.helped to easy the cost

78 One owners brother used a D60, removed the shafts, cutoff the ends of the housing, shortened the right hand side of the housing, put on the yota ends, brakes, and axles. I think DJs helped do it. Seems to work fine.

i dont understand why you want to change the rear end ,have you ever heard of anyone breaking a rear fj axle ?,i have a centered ford 9" only because i was breaking toy transfer case in half i went througth 3 before i found i was wasteing money so went atlas, but what i,m saying is toy axles are strong there almost the same set up s a 9", 3" tubes ,same size inner axles, why spend the money your looking at least $1500.00 and another $500 you could have a atlas

Exactly... a 35-spline D60 is overkill for a stock transfer case. If you are worried about upgrading the weak link, spend your money on a better transfer case. The Orion should fit the niche you are in.

yeah, i've rethought the whole direction i'm going for with my current ride.
i'm staying with the 40 rear.
