Who still lets you cut your own tree down?

We cut our own tree every year. Down in Potrero. All size trees cheap @ $20-40.

That's pretty damn far away for you though.

Is that up in the mtns or some lot in the city growing them?

If it was in the mtns, i might make a day of it.
More remote that mountainous. It's near the Tecate border crossing.

We always make a day of it and go to Barret Junction Cafe near Barret Lake for their 'Fish Fry'.

OOOOHHHHH!!!!
We usually drive up to Bishop, get permits ($3 IIRC), back down to Lone Pine and onto the Bristlecone HWY towards Lida Summit (NV). From there we sometimes go to Death Valley (that's the plan this year) or back up to Mammoth, or ??? I've done this run with my buddy at least 4-5 times. Always a blast.

AFAIK, there are BLM areas where cutting is encouraged/permitted.

PM if you have any questions

cheers.

Do you know if they're still open after the fires? Also what kind of trees? (Noble fir or Douglas fir)

Thanks!

Yep, they are still open. We just picked up our tree Saturday. We typically "tag" the tree the weekend of Thanksgiving then pick it up on a latter date.

The trees are Monterey Pine (long needle).
