In the January/February 2009 issue of BC Outdoors magazine, there is an article entitled "Whipsaw Creek Road" by Murphy Shewchuk.
It gives a lot of detailed history on the area and its trails, mentioning such landmarks as the grave by the old cabin.
However, he was unable to provide any insight on the trail to Wells and Lodestone Lake, as they were beyond his scope. He is in the process of updating his book "Coquihalla Trips & Trails", and was unable to give me permission to reprint the article, but I did offer an invitation to join us for our annual August trip there.

From his email to me, he offered this GPS information:

"Your club members may be interested in my GPS data for the trip. I'm experimenting with various formats and have posted samples of the data at
http://www.sonotek.com/tripnotes/ . The GPX data should open in programs such as OziExplorer, Garmin MapSource, or Memory-Map Navigator. The KMZ data is a compressed version of the KML data format used by Google Earth."

The website for the magazine is www.bcosportfishing.com

Did you menction the Chilcotin trip to him this July?

Jeff, if he is looking for the history on the Wells - Lodestone road, I can probably get it for him. I've known four people who knew this area like the back of their hand having built road, mined, trapped and logged in this area. Only one of them is alive, but he is the father of a good friend of mine. The Princeton Museum and Archives were the passion of his wife, who was also the mayor of Princeton for many years. There is a lot of information in that Museum. Nick ???? is the curator and has organized the Museum and Archives so that you can actually find the historiacl information they hold for the whole area. A call to Nick may also give Murphy Shewchuck the info he wants.

BTW, did he mention the legend of the China Mine? I know of a number of people who have tired to find it only to be run out by the only living character in the story - the old griz who is controlled by the spirit of the dead Chinese miners. Makes for a good camp story.
