The new owner of my old FJ62 says he is hearing whining coming from the transmission. I've asked if it is a new sound or something he heard all the way home, etc.

Vehicle has 114K miles and Molle did a transmission fluid flush at 109K, last year. Fluid has been clear pink and I have had no issues.

I never noticed a whine before, but I think I didn't notice a lot of stuff as it was my first LC.

I found some posts on it -whining in first gear, etc, but wanted to throw out a question for anyone who may have experience.

I recommended he remove the magnet I had on the bottom and let a little fluid out - - check it for color/clarity and metal, too.

Thoughts?

check that the tcase to tranmission seal didn't take a dump on him. if so it will totally dork the tcase and transmission. I'd start with dropping the transfer case fill plug.. If it pukes out a discusting mixture of ATF and 90 weight and is overfull you have your problem diagnosed.

If it's a "Whine" did he check the atf fluid level? sometimes the pump is sucking air causing the whine.
all of these things can be related.. It will pump atf into the tcase, that will cause the ATF to be low. it will also kill the tcase as ATF is a "cleaner" not a lubricant for gears. So they get nice and sharp as it takes the hardening off the face.

Erik - Thanks - !!!!!

I hit send before giving an update . .

the new owner thinks he is being overly cautious a little, but I still passed on the advice . .verbatim. thanks again!
