So I smell a ton of gas - replaced all fuel lines and inspected the fuel sender gasket on my 74 FJ40 -- all fine now. The tank however - has a small hole in the base and one at a seam. I need a new one. I see CCOT has the poly tanks w sender and hose kit (looks like some 5/16 fuel line) for $178. The OEm tanks from SOR ect look like $$. Has anyone had one of these CCOT tanks and how did they work? Any install tips? I wil plan on flushing I guess - probably with water and then let dry for a day or so - if that sounds right. I cannot figure how the tank is held in place. I do not see any tank straps / shims. Are there some hidden bolts someplace down low in the 30 years of suff piles around the base? Thanks -- Matt

After finding many little holes in my gas tank I (being 17 at the time) decided on doing a little "JB welding".... As you could probably figure out, it didnt work so I ordered one of the CCOT polywhatever gas tanks.
Nice fitting piece, extremely light weight, and durable. However like stated above, it doesnt seal at all. The wimpy gasket that is provided with the tank does nothing but corrode and break (at least in my case).
Id go with a good condition used tank or do your best to have it repaired and only use the option of the CCOT tank as a last resort.

I believe the company that makes POR-15 also sells a gas tank repair kit.

I had a gas tank leak along one of the seams about 3 years ago, I was using some POR-15 at the time to paint the floor of my cruiser, and put some on the leaking seam , after I removed it from the cruiser and drained it. Three years later, and it hasn't leaked since.
