Which leaf springs?

Hey Guys,
I'm building a 4x6 utility/camping trailer and need suggestions for a leaf spring that would be suitable for its light (under 1000lbs) loads.

I currently have 3500lb springs since it came with the 3500lb axle kit and they are way to stiff. I even removed 2 of the leaves and it is still too stiff, I guess mainly because of its short length.

Nice looking framework.
Hard to determin the springs unloaded and unfinished.
Thoughts on adding shocks to smooth the bounce?
I would skin the trailer fill it full of geat then decide.

I used a 3500 lb axle kit on my light weight trailer also but added shocks. Its stiff unloaded but no negative tendencies either on the trail or going down the freeway at 80mph.....
