Which auto trans with 1KZ ?

HI all,

I have a BJ73 which a previous owner has installed a 1KZ with auto into it. The engine and trans are probably out of a KZJ78.

What is the model of trans that it could be ?

Is the transmission electronically controlled ?

Is there an auto trans I can use with the 1KZ, that is not electronically controlled ?

Pretty sure it's a A343F. Electronic controlled 4speed auto. Great transmissions really. Don't seem to have the overheating problems of the A442.

You can buy a stand alone transmission controller if you want to separate the electronics. I think Spitronics makes something.

Yes its an A343f.. Which is a variant of the A340E series of aisin warner auto's. With the 1KZTE auto combo the ECU which controls the engine also runs the auto...
They are pretty reliable... But as said you can manualise them and take control yourself... There are several kits out there including spitronics, suprastick to name a few. And I have a thread on here when I manualised mine.
I don't know of any fully non electronic auto's that would bolt straight upto a 1KZTE..
In particular reason you are heading away from the A340 auto?

Was hoping to get rid of all ECUs and electronics from the engine and gearbox. Was planing on doing an injection pump conversion and to install variable geometry turbo (like I have done very successfully on a 5L)

I may have read somewhere that even with the 1HZ engine, they used this same A343f transmission. Is that correct ?
Since the 1HZ has no electronics and no engine ECU, what controlled the transmission in that set up ?

There are stand alone toyota Auto ECU's ... early crown uses them... So I guess later model cars could do the same....

I've heard the A343F was used in the 100 series diesel cruisers (1HDFT and maybe 1HZ). Would have to look it up in the EPC to know for sure though. Probably still has a computer though.
