I GOT THE CODE P0171 BUT DONT KNOW WHICH SENSOR IT IS. CAN SOME ONE LET ME KNOW BEFORE I BUY THE WRONG SENSOR AND EXACTLY HOW DO I CHANGE IT AND RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT:confused:   THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP

From looking at my diagnostic chart, it does not list a side for that code. It does for other codes, but not that one. What is does say, is...

System too Lean
(Fuel Trim)

 Air intake (hose loose)
 Fuel line pressure
 Injector blockage
 Heated oxygen sensor malfunction
 Mass air flow meter
 Engine coolant temp. sensor
 Gas leakage on exhaust system

I would kinda assume that this code only means the o2 sensor is malfunctioning if in addition to another code indicating the side (bank). Then again, I am wrong alot.

The code mean, you are running too lean.Did you run out of gas?If not,it could be anyone of those that LonghornCruiser posted.I would do the easy ones first, check the intake pipes make sure there are tight.how much miles you have on the fuel filter, could be clog,It could be anyone of the two top O2 sensors.

Have you reset the ECU,if not disconnect the battery, wait about 2 mins, connect it back and go for a ride for about 15mins to let the ecu learn again and see if the code comes back.

Remember that P0171 is NOT a O2 sensor code, but a "lean" condition. If you've been under the hood working, look for vacuum lines that could have been knocked off.
Do you have leaking exhuast manifolds cold in the morning?
Do you have a K&N air filter? Too much oil on them takes out the Mass Air Flow sensor.
Look for another source of unmetered air getting in. Loose air ducts, etc...
Fuel filters should be changed every 30K, if you can check the fuel pressure, do that also.

p0171 is a common v6 code set by an air flow meeter that is dirty on the hot wire causing it send bogus info to the ecu , we just spray them off with brake cleaner and reset the lamp, .
