I recently moved back to the chicago area and am a new cruiser owner and I have no idea where any good spots to go off road are. I live in Schaumburg and have scoured the internet for trails nearby but I haven't been able to locate anything. I know it's a bad idea to trespass on private property but I've seen several places I'd like to try where there is no houses or other building on the land and no signs or other markings warning about trespassing. How do you find out if it's ok to use an unmarked and uninhabited piece of land?

I've had the same urge as you but I think around here you don't want to be finding out the hard way if it's ok.

BTW, what are you driving?
At the beginning of the IL section there is a thread of "Places to Wheel". Check that for basic info. Be VERY careful if you go offroad into an area your unsure about. You could face some steep fines if you're caught going where you're not supposed to.

I drive a bone stock '91 with brand new 31x10.5 Kodiak A/Ts. It would be nice to go down the The Cliffs but I work this weekend and my girlfriend is very against wheeling and is half owner of the cruiser.
The place near my house that I think would make a good spot is next to an alpaca farm and and I think they either own the land or know who does so tomorrow after work I'm going to stop by and ask.

DONT DRIVE OFF ROAD UNLESS YOU ARE IN A ORV PARK. All other places are illegal. Ask me how I know. I was convicted of criminal destruction of property when I was about 17 for going places I shouldnt have.
Plus the facist environmentalists love ammo to use against us, so try not to hand them ammo.

There is a slim chance I could make it down there. I don't plan on going on to private property unless I get permission. I just wish I new of at least one place that the land owner was already cool with it.
Tell you what Lolwut, come on down and I'm pretty certain there will be a couple of folks that'll let you ride shotgun for the day! I have an open seat all weekend if you're interested.
