I'm tired of dealing with s***ty wiring connectors/terminals, so I'm looking for a good source.

Hoping to find somewhere that doesn't require you to bring your own lube.

I know of www.waytekwire.com and have ordered a catalog from them, but I was really hoping to find a place that sold pre-arranged "kits" of connectors. I don't need tons of each different kind, but rather an assortment of all the different kinds. Then once I figure out what I really use a lot of I can order more. I don't really want to spend more than $50 for the initial kit, but will if I ABSOLUTELY have to.

Suggestions? Thanks!

Arya,

Give us an example of what you are looking for in a kit. Are you talking about kits with molex style connectors or GM "weather-proof" type connectors, or general purpose M/F blade connectors, bullet connectors, or ? ? ?

I have been thinking about this one made by Ancor. Their products are used in the marine industry and are top quality from what I've read.

Beo,

I'm looking for standard ring, butt, spade, etc connectors/terminals. I found an excellent kit at www.delcity.net that has the shrink tube built into the sheating, etc.

I used to live about 5 mins from a West Marine, and although they have excellent products, they are also EXTREMELY proud of them IMO. That's not to say when I rewired my boat I didn't use them exclusively, but I don't quite have the budget now that I did then.

BTW, I don't really care for crimp connectors w/ vinyl sheathing(what is included in the kit you listed). The vinyl sheathing does insulate the connector from shorting out against other bare wires, but provides almost no protection for the joint against weather/corrosion. The units with shrink tube sheating are far superior IMO, especially when combined w/ a dab of electric grease before inserting the stripped wire into the terminal.

I don't currently have a need for large quantities of weatherpack connectors, and the few that I do need I can rob from my uncle's stash on occasion :D

Thanks for the help guys, I've ordered catalogs from both waytek and delcity and have noticed just from browsing online that delcity is significantly cheaper on quite a few items(like $2-3 on a $10 item).

Ary,
How can you tell that kit has the vinyl sheathing on the connectors? I don't have a West Marine anywhere close (probably not within 1,000 miles!) so there is no way for me to check out this kit or similar kits. It looked like a pretty good value for ~$45 and the crimping tool looks like a nice one.

Beo,

I would say it's fair to assume that if it doesn't say, then they are going to be Vinyl sheathed. Vinyl sheathing seems to be the standard in cheap, readily available terminals. I just simply don't think they are up to par when wanting to install wiring in long term, exterior situations. I would have absolutely no problem using them inside the truck to wire a stereo or something similar. My problems arise using them on the exterior, whether it be at the battery or under the truck for rock lights.

Something I've noted and am really surprised by is how much markup some of these guys have on "their" products. I looked up an 8-gang fuse-block w/ ground terminal on the americanautowire site nat posted and they're asking $22 for it. Delcity has the EXACT same unit for $9.29. Just something I found interesting.
